Want to know how stupid pitcher wins are as a stat? Aaron Harang has allowed 3 runs or fewer in 16 starts this season. In those games his record is 3-8. The Reds won the other 5 games in which he didn't get a decision. That's some bad luck.

That's been a big part of the story on Harang's season. The offense has scored more than 4 runs in a Harang start just 4 times this season. Yes, he had a 10-game stretch when he was a likely injured where he pitched terribly, but even when he has pitched well, the offense has let him down. Don't let that record fool you too much. If he's healthy, Harang will still be the Reds ace next season.

Wellemeyer appears to be another benefactor of the Pitcher Witch, Dave Duncan. For all of the accolades that Leo Mazzone has heaped on him, it seems to me like Dave Duncan has had more success with marginal pitchers than any coach in baseball. I have no study to back that up, just my gut.

The Reds need 4 more wins to top last season's total. Whoopee!
