Things looked bad early, but the Reds managed to pull it out for what I think is a pretty important series win. Pittsburgh seems to be a better team, but that doesn't change the fact that the Reds need to beat up on them a little to have any sort of shot this year.
Quick thoughts:
- Josh Hamilton seems to be swinging a little earlier in the count these past few days. I don't want to see him losing his patience because I feel like that's been a huge factor in his great month of April, so it's something to keep an eye on. The day off tomorrow comes at a pretty good time for him I think.
- The good thing about Aaron Harang is that today's start is about the worst you'll ever see him. I realize wins for a pitcher don't really mean anything, but 4-0 is still pretty cool.
- EdE is looking pretty good. Average is up to .221 and I think he's putting those rough few weeks behind him. Still would like to see some of those hard hit balls going over the fence, but he's hit quite a few in the last week that probably would be home runs in August so I'm not too worried.
- Just about everyone is coming around actually. Phillips is hitting well, and Dave Ross has finally started to have a few hits drop here and there. Dunn's power is coming back. There's no doubt that this offense is going to be streaky, but it's good to be reminded that they actually can hit.
