Mike Tyson biting small child

First the links:

  • Red Hot Mama has some Reds IM shorthand. My favorite is definitely "OMG/NO - Ryan Franklin's coming in".
  • If you haven't read this article about A-Rod yet, go ahead and take the time. It's worth it. I came away more sympathetic to A-Rod than ever, which is kind of incredible. Jason Giambi strikes me as a pompous bastard. This guy sums it up well.
  • The Hardball Times thinks the Reds would benefit from a fire sale:
Adam Dunn could be this year's Carlos Delgado, only cheaper, younger, and quite possibly better. Could the Reds swap Dunn for a slugging corner outfielder and a Yusmeiro Petit-like pitching prospect? Bronson Arroyo also provides a nice parallel for Beckett. He doesn't have the postseason laurels, but he'll get plenty of Cy Young votes this year. And he's signed well below market: under $4 million for each of the next two seasons.

Parting with those two players--and, perhaps, finally sending Ken Griffey Jr. somewhere he can DH--still leaves the Reds with a strong core consisting of Aaron Harang, a returning Brandon Claussen, and Edwin Encarnacion. Chris Denorfia is poised for a breakout season, and Homer Bailey could be next year's Josh Johnson. Wayne Krivsky may prefer to stockpile veteran relievers, but a far better course is open to him.

I was sort of with him until the Claussen part.

  • Lots going on with minor league affiliates. Columbus has signed a two year deal with the Nats, and Billings is pushing for a new stadium. The backers website is here.

For the first time ever when doing one of these things none of the games matter tonight. But hey, Virginia vs. Georgia Tech. I eagerly await the time that we'll have a college football game on every day of the week from August - December.

But seriously, there is a pretty good wild card race currently going on in the NL. San Diego and LA both play at 10:00 tonight, and Philadelphia is off. Who's everyone rooting for? I wouldn't mind seeing Ryan Howard in the playoffs.

Finally, go read this if you haven't already, and then vote in the attached poll for what trilogy you think should get the offical Red Reporter label.
