We haven't had one of these in a while, so here's your Monday off day open thread.
Here's what's going on today:
7:05 Mets vs. Marlins: (Williams vs. Sanchez)
8:10 Astros vs. Cardinals: (Pettite vs. Carpenter)
And of course, Monday Night Football:
7:00 Minnesota vs. Washington
10:15 San Diego vs. Oakland
Still not really used to the whole MNF on ESPN thing. It'll take awhile to get used to I imagine.
Today's off day open thread question/discussion:
Share your Reds playoff memories.
One of mine: I used to bet my allowance all the time as a kid, on just about everything. From sporting events to dares, my group of friends were constantly circulating money between ourselves.
In '95 the Reds went to the playoffs, and after beating up on the Dodgers came up against the Braves. A friend of mine that lived up the street was a big Braves fan, so naturally we bet on each game of the NLCS. I lost something like $50 total on that series, which for my 14 year old pre-job self was a pretty huge amount of money. I can still remember increasing the amount of money at stake each night, thinking that yeah they might not win the series, but surely they'd win a game at some point.
Reggie Sanders man. Believe it or not, but I've never been as annoyed at a Reds player as I was at Reggie Sanders and his damn strikeouts that week.
But I learned a valuable lesson: never bet on your favorite teams. It already hurts quite a bit when they lose, so why add the potential for additional pain by putting money up for grabs? It's a lesson that's served me well since I've mostly rooted for mediocre teams in my life.
Have a great Monday everyone.
