First cuts

From Marc:

Six players were sent packing from big-league camp this morning.

The Reds released Luke Hudson and Bubba Nelson, and reassigned to minor league camp Aaron Herr, Anderson Machado, Derek Wathan and Josh Hall.

Color me surprised on the outright release of Hudson and Nelson.  I'm not sure I understand the logic on releasing Nelson especially, as it seemed that he might have had a future in the bullpen.

When Herr was signed some people thought he'd have a great shot at the second base job, but I'm glad that didn't happen. He's got interesting power for a middle infielder, but that's about it.

Homer Bailey survives the first cut, which I think is a good thing.  It can only help him to be facing major league hitters.
