Spring Training Game Eight Notes

Cincinnati 4 - Detroit 3

Notable Perfomances:

Rich Aurilia: 1-2, HR, 2RBI

Dane Sardinha: 2-2, 1R

And apparently the Reds picked up Pedro Swann at some point.  How do I know this?  He went 1-1 on Thursday.

Swann is 34 years old, played in Baltimore's system last season, blah, blah, blah, if he plays for Cincinnati this year we're screwed beyond belief so it's hard to care.

Just found this in the Post from Wednesday:

With only 21 position players in big-league camp, the Reds are scrambling a bit to fill in their rosters for split-squad games.

Monday's doubleheader with the Pirates wasn't too bad, as some players made appearances in both the day and night games, but with the Reds playing the Tigers in Lakeland and the Phillies in Clearwater at the same time this afternoon, there are fewer bodies to go around.

As a result, a handful of players from minor league camp will get the call to fill in. On that list, according to manager Dave Miley, will be outfielder Stephen Smitherman, the organization's 2003 minor league player of the year, and 34-year-old journeyman Pedro Swann, whose first professional season was 1991.

You miss a day, you miss a lot.  Pedro Swann even.
