Located on his tonsils and two lymph nodes. Get better, Mark
Our friends and fellow SBNation-als over at MLB Daily Dish have prepared a very thorough and well-rendered mapping of the Reds' system, which includes executive structure, rosters, salaries, arbitration and option details, and recent BA prospect rankings. I think you'll agree they've done a bang-up job and that this tool will enable you to waste even more time thinking about players you barely knew existed. It's meant to be a living document, so MLBDD urges feedback and corrections. We've passed along the bit about Pensacola, but feel free to chime in over there.
According to Bruce Levine at ESPNChicago.com, the Reds and Cubs are close to a deal that would bring Sean Marshall to Cincinnati in exchange for Travis Wood and two minor leaguers. Those had better be some really minor leaguers. Nickname credit should go to HighlifeMan21.
Mark Sheldon brings us the news that Chapman's Return to Starting Pitching tour will make a stop through Arizona. The nickname "Buena Wrista Crucial Sub " will no longer be usable (if it ever was) in a matter of days as Chapman has been tapped to pitch Oct. 24, 27 and 31 in the AFL, as a prelude to Puerto Rican winter league action. No word on what team, but my guess would be the Phoenix Desert Dogs. La Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico gets started on November 4.
Via John Fay, Walt Jocketty said the team is "finalizing plans right now," but those plans will include Instructional League in Goodyear and roughly a month of Winter Ball in Puerto Rico.
Via John Fay's Twitter feed, Cueto was barred by some kind of doctor from throwing, but plans on participating in winter ball.
I took some questions about the Reds for the Series Preview over at SBNation's Brewers' blog. I tried as hard as I could to hide my seething jealousy.
Didn't see this up yet. I'm not sure on the rules of waivers, so I'll let someone smarter than me explain it.
SweetSpot blog over at ESPN says to trade Ryan Hanigan to the Rays for Kelly Shoppach and Alex Cobb. What say you?
Nice to be seen as a good team and not a fluke
