However, "opportunity" here could refer either to the job opportunity itself being that of "starting SS" or the chance to compete for the starting job. Unclear.
UPDATE: Maybe it's all sound and fury. Dusty weighs in, hinting at an open audition: "We don’t have a quarterback controversy at short. Everybody plays on my team. They’re both going to play. Janish is younger. Edgar is more experienced. Janish deserves a chance to be my shortstop."
