Reds sign Kent Mercker

The Reds signed LHP Kent Mercker to a minor league contract with a spring training invite.

Mercker sat out last season after elbow surgery. Mercker, a native of Dublin, Ohio, appeared in 37 games for the Reds in 2006.

Seems a lot like the Hermanson move from last year. Good clubhouse guy, snowball's chance in hell of making the roster.

Wayne signed Mercker

to trade straight up for Blanton. At least that's how Reds' trades would work if I were running the country.

Yeah!

Kent's a great guy, and if he makes it to cincy or even louisville out of spring training, he will be a great influence on the young guys.

I would say solid, no risk move by Krivsky, but pretty sure Mercker's agent set all of this up.

Does Kent Mercker

have any options left? What is he, about 40 years old now?

Maybe this is what Dusty meant about bringing in guys to Cincinnati.

Who remembers that time that Mercker called Chip Carey and Steve Stone in the middle of a game to bitch them out, because you know it was obviously the announcers causing the team to lose. I lose a lot of respect for Mercker that day.
