Fay's got the play by play
http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/redsinsider/2008/02/games-have-begun.asp

Here's the first inning:
Gray 1st: Norris Hopper hit a high hopper to third Edwin Encarnacion made a strong throw to get him. Jeff Keppinger followed with a double down the line. (I know give him the job). Jay Bruce followed with 4-3. Joey Votto struck out.

White 1st (Bronson Arroyo pitching): Ryan Freel flied out to left. Juan Castro walked. Scott Hatteberg singled. BPhillips hits in 5-4-3 DP.

i.e.
Hopper grounded out to third.

What is it about this guy that gets the Reds media so prosaic?

FWIW
this is how CTR described it:
"Nice play by EE to get Hopper -- tough bounce and no infield hit. "

there's a lot that's been done wrong with that blog:  No RSS feed, no comments, that picture of CTR.

You can leave comments on that blog but if you want to follow the play-by-play you've got to go to his other blog.

He's trying to fix the comment thing
Sounds like his new corporate masters don't really get blogging.

Hughes is Internet savvy
Before he had his blog, he was known for hanging out  at baseball card message boards, and eBay.  He's a big baseball card collector, and has bought a lot of cards on eBay and via baseball card trading sites.

Love it..
I love how they make up rules as they go in the inter-squad games..

Switching teams: "Andy Phillips has moved from DH of the VReds to 2B of the HReds"

Ignoring batters: "the VReds are skipping the DH"

"Sometimes, you get so caught up in on-base percentage that you're clogging up the bases." - our very own D. Baker - Oh my..

More..
Ending an inning because of pitch count?: "Drew Anderson hit a three-run homer to right. 8-2. Not a real good debut for the Rule 5 guy at all. In fact, that ended the inning. He reached his pitch count.

I just checked out C. Trent's play-by-play.  He's still doing that CC thing.  Good grief.

I just watched that movie this weekend
...for like the third time.  I bought it for my roommate for Christmas.

"It's not called 'gym-nice-tics'!"

I'm confused by the soundtrack though.  The main character wears all these AC/DC, Black Flag, Motorhead, Bad Brains shirts, but they don't play any of that music on the sdtrk.  But they do play Electric Six and TWO Fannypack songs.  So I can forgive.  Plus the sight of Jeff Bridges on a trampoline is oh so wonderful.

Any news?
It seems like I've read or heard a little sumpin' about everyone on the 40-man roster (and even quite a few non-roster invitees) with the exception of MacBeth.

Anyone?

He signed a one year deal
along with Keppinger and Ramon Ramirez.  That was yesterday.  I haven't heard anything else about him.

Juan Castro has arrived.
He's earned a place among the veterans who don't board the bus for just any Grapefruit League game.

From C Trent:

VETS TO SIT -- Several veteran players won't be making Wednesday's trip to Clearwater, Fla., to face the Phillies. Among those not making the trip are Ken Griffey Jr., Adam Dunn, Juan Castro and Javier Valentin.

by Fat Vegas Alan on Feb 27, 2008 8:32 AM EST reply actions

Castro
Do you think he's going to practice sitting on the bench next to Griffey and Dunn so he can get on TV after they hit home runs?
Don't talk back to Darth Vader or he'll getcha!

by Slyde on Feb 27, 2008 8:51 AM EST up reply actions

Close.
I think Griffey and Dunn asked him to stay in Sarasota with them because they can't find the remote for the tv in the training room.

by Fat Vegas Alan on Feb 27, 2008 8:59 AM EST up reply actions

Oh Lordy.
The Fay: Here's the lineup for today's tilt.

Ryan Freel CF
Norris Hopper LF
Brandon Phillips 2B
Edwin Encarnacion 3B
Joey Votto 1B
Jay Bruce RF
Jeff Keppinger SS
Paul Bako C
Andy Green DH

Jeremy Affeldt P

That top six might be very close to what you'd have next year if Ken Griffey Jr. and Adam Dunn leave via free agency.

I'm crying already.
