Game Thread: Game 23 vs the Pirates

TIME: 7:10 @ PNC Park

PIRATES PROBABLE:
                     REDS PROBABLE:
Ian Snell (1-1, 2.00)                         Eric Milton (0-3, 4.32)

Eric Milton pitching. Offense going against a guy who's looked outstanding so far this season. Really tough to be optimistic looking at this one, but then again I really thought the Reds would manage two out of three against the Cardinals with a Bronson Arroyo vs. Randy Keisler matchup in game three. So you never know I guess.

Go Reds!

Rotoworld is hilarious sometimes
Here's their comment on Dunn batting sixth:

Dunn is one of three major leaguers to hit 40 homers each of the last three years, he's the only player in Cincinnati's lineup tonight with even one 25-homer campaign to his credit and he's batting .283/.400/.565 against right-handers this season. Still -- and it's definitely time for everyone to face it -- he is no Alex Gonzalez.

by chandrathan on Apr 27, 2007 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

They sort of do
Lineups only matter in that they distribute at bats unevenly. I like Dunn batting 2nd because it will get him a lot more plate appearances over the course of a season. But yeah, for this one game, it's not really a big deal. Maybe this will help him out of his slump.

How is
the Pirates' bullpen these days?

by Gray on Apr 27, 2007 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

Not too shabby of late
9, or almost 9 scoreless the other night in a 16 inning win. 9 consecutive scoreless innings. Imagine that.
Wanted: A reliever for three quick outs in the 8th inning.

I'm talkin' about the bullpen.
I'd love to see 9 consecutive scoreless innings from the 'pen.

Let's just hope he gets the chance to keep playing until he does get there.

i'll probably leave here around nine or ten.  it's usually against my religion to get up before nine on a saturday, but this is the reds!

or should we just wing it?

but if you want to, i don't care.  it'd probably be better to book?  i don't know.

Ken Griffey
really looks bad. Give him credit for being out there. But a 15 day dl might be in his best interest

by Caleb on Apr 27, 2007 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

wait
seriously? Did Narron just put Lohse in as a pinch runner?

by Gray on Apr 27, 2007 9:04 PM EDT reply actions

Makes sense
You don't want to burn a position player so early in the game.

by teb7 on Apr 27, 2007 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Does Jr.
look bad enough that he needs a runner?

by Gray on Apr 27, 2007 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

I dunno
Didn't really get to see him run. If he's having trouble breathing, it doesn't surprise me that they'd run for him.

by teb7 on Apr 27, 2007 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

He's used Milton before.
Notably after Milty came back from knee surgery, but yeah, this is normal.

Boy oh Boy, last year before the trade if you told me a Milton start would be 3 runs or less, I would of said the Reds win 70% of those, now they lose games with a gooseegg on their side of scoreboard.

I'll be in the Burg tomorrow freezing and cheering the Reds on, hopefully they give me reason to smile on the trip home.
