Opening Day + Ohio State in the national championship all in the space of twelve hours, this could be either the greatest day in the history of ever, or one of the worst, so let's keep our fingers crossed for the former.

Looks like the weather will be beautiful today, as opposed to last year - here's to the game having the same opposite outcome!
It's a new season, I'm working up something positive.

Go Reds!!!!
I am so excited. We got up early and went down to look at the Opening Day tree and open gifts. I got a 1958 Frank Robinson, a 62 Vada Pinson, a Ken Griffey rookie card, and a 76 Reds team card in my glove that we hung by the fireplace with care. I opened another gift and received a rain check for Marty Brennamen's CD. I hope it comes today in the mail. We normally would take the tree down this evening but we'll leave it up for the OSU game tonight. I love Opening Day. Wire to Wire Baby and remember Hope Springs Eternal

Why did I agree to a 3:00 meeting today?
I'll be listening online to the first pitch, but then I'll probably have to shut down just as it's getting interesting.

I was
an exiled Reds fan living in the Chicago suburbs in Jr. High and early High school and took to calling that team the Chubbies. Yes, it's meant to be out the door and innuendo. Cheap, juvenile, bawdy baseball humor.

National Holiday
Since I'm a student with no class on Mondays, I'm free to watch the game.  But I'm curious what working stiffs do on opening day.  I'm pretty sure I'd be tempted to call in sick every year.  So my question for everyone is what lengths you've gone to in order to enjoy this unofficial national holiday.

Also, I've never had the pleasure of living in Cincinnati, so I've always wondered if a lot of offices shut down for the day.  If they don't, they should.

"Designated Hitters suck"
I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.

I love this quote

Freel-Dunn
How many mistakes will opposing pitchers make worrying about Freel on first when pitching to Dunn?   After one inning of the 2007 experiment, I declare the Dunn batting second move a complete and total success.

Donkey had a hell of a game...
Of course, I'm sure Michael could still find something to criticize.

When Griffey is lacing hits the other way, I'm a happy person.

Harang was awesome save for a couple innings when he wasn't very efficient, but the defense bailed him out.

Speaking of defense, we finally found a shortstop who belongs in the company of Concepcion and Larkin.

Freel was out of control today, but I can't fault a guy for being aggressive.

Damn Murton for stealing what should have been Hamilton's first major league hit.
