This team has a lousy offense! They have to be among the worst in the majors in the last 6 weeks.

Remember how we all were begging for decent pitching the first third of the season. Well they've gotten that the last third and they've fallen off badly.

Ross, Phillips, and Freel who were among the batting heroes the first third are in serious slumps. I would have played Valentin. Why didn't Hatteberg play today?

The bullpen has been doing well - 4 innings today with 2 hits and a run. No walks and 3 K's. And Kim pitched well too.

Now we have to find a couple of bats in the offseason. Any possible free agents looming?

Sac bunts

are much hated by myself too, and are way overused in baseball. That said, the situation screamed for a sacrifice. Runner at second, no one out in a one-run or tied game, is one of the very few times I want the sac bunt.

Heck, could Jerry at least have told Aurilia to try and go the other way with it? Instead he's trying to pull the dang ball and hence the pop-up

If this team would use them properly and execute them when called upon this team would be about 10 games better off in the standings. Fundamentally this team sucks. They do not run the bases well (see Clayton in the 8th).

If they don't win a game with the long ball they can't win. I'll give them credit for playing over their heads all summer and getting us to football season. Jerry, you and the kids are excused now. Run along and let real teams go at it in the playoffs.

I love seeing the Red Sox looking stupid. Last offseason, they played the role of 'big club' and traded prospects for the proven players Beckett and Lowell (though nobody wanted Lowell after last year). Now, less than a year later, the trade is already backfiring; Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez are both excelling at the Major League level, something that can't be said for gopher-ball wizard Beckett. This isn't as bad as the Kazmir for Zambrano (Victor!) trade, but it's similar - a big club trades away prospects for veterans, and the prospects soon outshine the vets.

Too bad only 12,000 people showed up to see it!

Yeah

that Beckett trade isn't looking too bad for the Marlins. Ramirez and Sanchez are already good and neither is 23 yet. Even Jesus Delgado is looking good, though he's still only in high-A. It'd be cool if the Reds made a deal like that, not that I'm looking for a major dump, but to net two studs and a decent throw-in would be sweet.

Gary Mathews, Jr.'s catch

should not be up there. People rob homers all the time, and although he made a nice mid-air adjustment and it was a great catch, I still would take Freel's full-speed, diving-away-from-the-plate grab.
