The Cubs really suck thread

No links today, instead I thought we could take a moment to enjoy this:

The only thing worse than hitting rock bottom is the anxiety that the real thud hasn't yet come.

That underlying fear is one the Cubs and manager Dusty Baker are trying to erase after a numbing 6-5 loss Friday to the Atlanta Braves left emotions in tatters.

''This beats all right here,'' Baker said, his face and words a reflection of frustration and disbelief. ''We gave them runs. You can't give away runs. We gave them four, five runs. We outhit them [12-5], but you can't give away runs.

''That was an awful loss,'' he said, cursing when no other words seemed to fit. ''That was just terrible. I don't know what's going on now.''

The Cubs have been the best part of this baseball season for me next to the Reds solid start. They're now 18-29 after a crushing loss to the Braves last night, and I'm hopeful that they haven't hit bottom yet.

They're playing Tony Womack now, which would seem to signify that things can't get much worse, but I'm still hopeful.

The Reds are 8.5 games up on the Cubs, and May's not even over. That's good stuff.

Cubbies
I was just about to post a diary about how much the Cubs suck! I'm not a Reds fan who especially hates the Chicago. You need to be consistently good to earn my disdain. But they're on an amazing streak of sucktitude right now. They've scored only 169 runs and allowed 239. By all rights they should be behind Pittsburgh with that differential. Only two more games then we get to play them...

And as soon as Womack was called up a Cubs fan on Primer declared him worse than Hitler.

Get that runner over
3 times last night, runner on 2nd, no outs, either bunted or hit over to third with one out...  I seemed like the only fan that was disappointed with this out giveaway.  None of those 3 runners scored.

good point
it is the the ability to do the little things when the offense is struggling that make good teams great.

Take it easy on the Cubbies ...
This Reds team has been there, and may join them soon if they can't learn how to hit even above average pitching now and then.

Taking it easy
You're reading the wrong site if you're looking for someone to go easy on the Cubs. ;)

Cubs suck? Ha!
This type of thread would make a lot more sense if it were posted in a Cardinals or Astros forum. You know, teams that actually have more than 1 winning season in the last 10 and have placed higher than 5th in the last 6. But then again, who else would know suckitude better than Reds fans, right?

Hey you're right, the Cubs suck this year. But at least us Cub fans don't have the misfortune of having to live in Cincinatti.

Cin-cinn-ati
Of course living around here makes it easier to learn how to spell the name of the city, I guess. Or can we just assume that Cubs fans can't spell?

Hey...
"Of course living around here makes it easier to learn how to spell the name of the city, I guess. "

At least you've got that going for you. Which is nice.

huh?
You would be right if any of that were true.  The Reds have had 3 .500 or better seasons in the last ten . . . the ten worst seasons in franchise history, mind you.  And they have placed better than 5th 3 times in the last 6 years . . . again the worst 6-year period in the history of the franchise.

So I think you have the wrong team thread, my little cubbie fan.

Well
you're right. I posted without doing the research and what I said was severely lacking in facts. Shame on me. However, with the exception of 1995, 1999 and 2000, the Reds haven't really been relevant. And only one of those seasons was a playoff year. Granted, the Cubs haven't done much better in that time span (3 winning seasons and 2 playoffs) but its safe to say the Reds haven't really been lighting the NL on fire the last few years.

Need Help: I'm not very good at math
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not so good with the numbers.

In each of the following, can someone tell me which one of the years is more recent?
1990 or 1908?
1976 or 1908?
1975 or 1908?
1940 or 1908?
1919 or 1908?

Is 5 world series wins greater than 2?

I guess I hadn't appreciated the Cubs' dominance of the Reds over the last 10 years.  Which of these records is better since 1996?
Cubs: 796-875
Reds: 805-867

The Reds and the Cubs have met 150 times in the last 10+ years.  The Reds lead the series 77-73.  Is that over or under .500?

number
Slyde, I'm not sure.  I'll get some Cubs fans on this right away.

It doesn't take a math wiz
or a rocket scientist to see that the Reds have historically been better than the Cubs. I'm not disputing that. Apparently you're not that great at reading comp. either since the point of my thread (which you obviously missed) is that the Reds haven't exactly been that much better than the Cubs the last few years. The same Cubs who apparently suck bad enough to warrant a lame "your team sucks" thread. Again, I could see this on a site for a team that has been regularly competitive, but from one that's been mired in the same black hole of suckitude for the entirity of this decade? That's a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

805-867 in 10 years isn't really anything to write home about.

The Reds have sucked
Do you think I don't realize that the Reds have sucked over the last decade?  I've watch them on a daily basis for over 20 years.  I've seen the sucktitude in person.

I think you've missed the point of the entire thread, which is to say that the Cubs suck.  It's just some nice little trash talking between opponents' fans.  And the beauty of the whole thing is when the pot gets to call the kettle black because, frankly, the kettle is just a little bit more black.
