Eyewitness Report --- RedsFest

Ken Griffey Junior entered the season tied with a HOF on the career homer list, and finished the season tied with a HOF on the career homer list. Name the two HOF's....

*Slyde, Red Hot Mama, CTS, Ash, the Bobkitten and I met up Sat at RedsFest.  An absolute star studded event.

*Slyde had a little 1x1 time with Kriv-dawg, and inquired on the RF position.  The names Hopper, Deno and Bubba were mentioned. Wow.

*I had a little 1x1 time with ED44 in the "sports bar" during the USC/UCLA game. ED should run for office, as he stated he was a fan of both programs and couldn't be cornered into divulging who he was rooting for.

*Farney was dressed age appropriate.

*Jay Bruce looks young. Very young.

*sukr would dwarf Todd Coffey. Seriously.

*Slyde is the proud new owner of The Best Reds Artifact, trumping the Royce auto Big Stick. And I just couldn't pull the trigger on a Hollandsworth game used sleeveless jersey. $37.50. Damn, maybe I shoulda....

*Thumbs up to the Field of Dreams, very nice touch having handicapped children playing wiffleball. Inspirational stuff.

*Slyde and I were selected to play Reds Trivia on stage.  His partner was Jeff Brantley, mine was George Grande. Moderator was Chris Welsh. Super, super nice guys. It went down to the final question (see above). One person got it right, one person missed it. To be fair, one person saw the questions last evening, one person didn't.

*No Rolando Roomes merchandise, but an autographed M. Sanford 8x10 was going for seven bucks.

*Ken Broo and I waxed nostalgic on Ohio Bobcat athletics.  Mobile, AL is going to be overrun on Jan 7. Mark my words.

*John Allen was wearing a nametag. That struck me as odd, as no one else was wearing a nametag.

*Professional Memorabilia Guy made an appearance. I recommend RedsFest '07 have more lines dedicated to autographs for kids only.  This is Ouuuurrrrrr Country, and we need many more young baseball fans.

*I missed BA's concert, but I'm still firmly in the corner of anyone who supports/plays/likes grunge music. Jet City, baby.

*We discussed "adopting" obscure Reds players for '07. Royce is gone, so I'm in the market for a Baseball Guy.  I got a frontrunner, but I'm playong it close to the vest.

My thoughts
Slyde had a little 1x1 time with Kriv-dawg, and inquired on the RF position.  The names Hopper, Deno and Bubba were mentioned. Wow.
Yep, that's the plan he and I came up with for right field next year.  We're pretty happy with it.  Here's a picture of us discussing it (I'm in the Reds hat, Krivsky in the Cosby sweater).

Jay Bruce looks young. Very young.
Yes, and he's no bigger than I am either.  He walked right past me on the way to the restroom (did you know professional athletes pee just like you and me?) and if it weren't for the jersey that said Bruce on the back, you never would have guessed that he's part of the future of this organization.

sukr would dwarf Todd Coffey. Seriously.
He means in height.  Coffey's got you on the gut easily, sukr.

Slyde is the proud new owner of The Best Reds Artifact, trumping the Royce auto Big Stick.
It's a previously worn Coutlangus BP jersey.  It cost $25 (to the Reds community fund) - that's the kind of deal I couldn't pass up.  The one problem is that it doesn't have a number on it.  If anybody knows his number, that would be super.  And I was incredibly disappointed that obc didn't have the guts to put up the 37.50 on the Hollandsworth jersey.

Thumbs up to the Field of Dreams, very nice touch having handicapped children playing wiffleball. Inspirational stuff.
Absolutely.

Slyde and I were selected to play Reds Trivia on stage.  His partner was Jeff Brantley, mine was George Grande. Moderator was Chris Welsh. Super, super nice guys.
I want to echo how great all three of those guys were.  We were on stage with them for 45 minutes and every single one of them were a blast.   From left to right, this is Brantley, me, obc, and Grande.

It went down to the final question (see above). One person got it right, one person missed it. To be fair, one person saw the questions last evening, one person didn't.
Yes, I saw some of the answers previously.  How was I supposed to know that they would repeat the same set of questions from an hour before?  But to be fair, obc had George Grande as a partner while I had Jeff Brantley.  Brantley, while a super nice guy, did not present one correct answer except for identifying the Billy Bates pitcture - unfortunately that question went to obc's team.  As for the final question, I knew the correct answer the first time I saw it, so that's no excuse. This is me (behind the sign), Brantley, Grande and obc.

Ken Broo and I waxed nostalgic on Ohio Bobcat athletics.  Mobile, AL is going to be overrun on Jan 7. Mark my words.
Ken Broo is very orange.  And there were way too many people trying to get the coveted Broo/Vogel tandem autograph.

John Allen was wearing a nametag. That struck me as odd, as no one else was wearing a nametag.
He looked like a nervous host.  I kept waiting for him to ask if he could refill my drink.

Professional Memorabilia Guy made an appearance. I recommend RedsFest '07 have more lines dedicated to autographs for kids only.
Yep, way too many middle aged men waiting in line for autographs from Ted Power.

We discussed "adopting" obscure Reds players for '07. Royce is gone, so I'm in the market for a Baseball Guy.  I got a frontrunner, but I'm playong it close to the vest.
I've already claimed Chad Moeller, for obvious reasons.

Overall, I had a great time at my first Redsfest.  It was a well done event and both Grande and Brantley said that it's unlike anything any other team in the league does.  I think we are very lucky as fans in that respect.

Soo...
his gut's bigger than mine? :)
The real question is, can he spike his fastball 4' from the mound in a speed booth? Didn't think so.

I'm a little let down Ash is in front of Krivs. I guess I expected bunny ears or something. But looks like you were all right in the mix. Hobnobbing with the Reds elite. Slyde, you realize, if he tanks the remaining transactions this winter, you'll be responsible based on this photo. You were that close, you could have stuck a mini bat in his eye socket or something.

I've got a hankering for government inspected sausage for some reason.

Hey bobcat, any banter with Grande?

Krivsky always said life was like a box of players....

Actually
That isn't Ash in the photo.  She wasn't there yet.  It was a 10-year old boy, jerk. :P

I forgot to mention the obvious part of our conversation about right field.  After listing off all of the players that could possibly see playing time in right, Krivsky said, "I just put the players out there, it's Jerry's decision who plays."  It was such a typical answer that I was befuddled about how to respond.  I seriously wanted to challenge him on some stuff, but there were several hopeful kids standing near by and I didn't want to ruin their chance to talk to him by pissing him off.  So, I blew smoke up his ass and walked away.  Next time, I'll make sure I bring some charts with me.

As for Grande, he called at least five of the questions "bloops" and he told obc about his Prince Albert.  It's was typical George.

Dammit!
Ash is petite enough to pass for a 10 year old from the back, no? So I didn't look close enough. Ash don't kill me, but you do wear a North Face jacket don't you?

You tried talking sense into him? This is my point, you'd never get anywhere with him on a mental level.  It almost sounds like he tried to snub. Are you on the FireKrivsky wagon yet? Shoulda' used the Royce bat on him

Wow.
That kid looks like he's about 4'7". I'm a biiiit taller than that. C'mon! And no, no North Face. I don't have that kind of cash.

Acutally, it was more like
Me: On base percentage is a measure of the rate at which a player gets on base, or conversely the number of times that he doesn't make an out...

Krivsky: Yeah, I know, it's just like golf, the lower the OBP the better, right?

Castellini (walking by and in his best George Bush voice): You're doing a heckuva job, Krivy!

by Slyde on Dec 3, 2006 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

Wasnt Narron there also?
Narron: Mmmpf aargle dnnalup po. (Unable to translate)

I forgot walking past an auto line and having a barker address a kid with: "Hey, you want Jerry Narron's autograph? Right this way".  As the barker pointed to a line of stansions to the child, Slyde dropped "Yeah, that's what kids want".

I think I'll contact the Reds Community Fund after 4th Q bonus hits. I'll get my sleeveless game used jersey. Dutch, Royce, Hancock...no preference.

Hahahahahahahaha
Very funny!!!

Actually, the guy who does the George W thing is Narron, with his George W "Debate Squint."

Remember, that's what got him the extension.  It made him look serious and engaged.

Don't mind me...just thinking positive and pitching to contact, that's all...

Narron's the Decider!
Remember when Krivsky said it?  Does that make Krivsky like Cheney?  He certainly looks f'd up in the photo...

Oh yeah
Jay Bruce looks young, because he is 19 years old. The kid wont even turn 20 until April.
