Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Introductions

This entry got me to thinking that a thread about who we are wouldn't be a bad idea, so I'll start. I'm 23 years old, a college student majoring in Political Science. To put myself through college I coach high school boys cross country and tennis, and do various other things ... like blog about the Reds. I'm engaged to a great girl, and we'll be getting married this August.

I've been a Reds fan my entire life and really couldn't imagine it being any other way.

Just for fun, after you've introduced yourself include your favorite current Red and your all-time favorite Red. Mine:

Current favorite Red: Wily Mo Pena

All-Time favorite Red: Barry Larkin

Nice Idea.

I'm Scott Rubin and I reside in NY City.  I work in a major bank as a foreign exchange salesperson (think financial products sales).  I grew up in Miami when there were only the Dolphins and started following the Reds as a kid during their heyday in the 70's.  I've been a loyal and diehard fan ever since.  I've never been to Cincy but would love to make a trip out there and see the new ballpark.  I try to catch them when they play the Mets out here.

I've been reading JD's site for about 9 months and peruse one or two other Reds sites as well.

Introduction
My name is Josh McClain. I work in the design engineering dept of a major defense company.  I grew up in Phoenix, but was born in, and have loads of family around the Ohio River Basin, so growing up I got the chance nearly every summer to fly back and watch the Reds in Riverfront and I was hooked.

I remember we used to plan our vacation trips in the summer to San Diego, San Fran and LA around when the Reds would be in town so we could go to a game while we were there. I was probably the only kid in the state of Arizona who had his own Eric Davis jersey/t-shirt growing up.

I'm also a rabid College Baseball and College football fan.

Current Fav Red: Jason LaRue

All time Fav: Johnny Bench

Redsmom, I got to see your son play a few times this fall in the Arizona League and he's got great instincts as a catcher. Had a lot of fun watching him, was by far the best Reds player in the AFL this year. And he really hit the tar out of the ball. If he keeps that up, he'll be playing in GABP in no time.

Wish your son the best of luck from us, after reading the interview here sounds like he's quite the person as well.

I'm Greg, and it looks like I'm currently the eldest stateman, born in 1957 in Cincy.  I'm now in Atlanta where I analyze the TV ratings for Turner Broadcasting.  Worked at the Riverfront scoreboard in the early 90's part time while I was at WLWT (still have my scoresheet from the Mark Whiten 4 HR game), and have contributed articles and research to Big Red Dynasty and Redleg Journal, and also some research for the Reds HOF.

Current Favorite - Adam Dunn

Past Favorites - Eric Davis and Vada Pinson

Hello
My name is Dave and I'm not a life-long fan, but it's pretty close.  I moved to Cincinnati when I was 9, so I guess it's been almost 20 years now I've followed the team.  I now live in Boston, where, I try to talk about anything related to Reds/Bengals/Buckeyes, everyone here just gives me a blank look.  Something about their teams winning every championship on the face of the planet.  And, yes, it is as annoying living in the self-annointed "City of Champions" as it seems.  But I still try to fight the good fight to spread the gospel of finishing .500 every season.  Needless to say, I don't get very far.

Anyways, being here on the East Coast, I can only get my Reds news from people like JD and the Enquirer/Post/Hal McCoy websites.  It's not much, but it's also the best I can do.  Keep the news coming!!!

Intros at the Reds Anonymous meeting
Hi, my name is Tommy, and I am a Redsaholic. Let's see, 28 this year, starting to feel old. I know it gets worse. I'm a part-time firefighter but work full time for Satan. I may or may not be in police academy, depending on how many bacon jokes I'd have to endure. Being a Reds fan is part of who I was brought up to be, and I'd give anything to relive the days at Riverfront with Dad.

Current fav: Redsmom (You keep sending him Campbells soup:))

All-time: Chris Sabo (and no, I never got over the championship series OR grunge)

my stats
34, grew up in cincinnati, since relocated to Tennessee. I am an attorney living in Memphis...life-long Reds fan, snuck a radio under my pillow to listen to Reds games long after light's out as a 5-year-old (Summer of 1976...good times).

ALl-time fave: George Foster

Howdy
Since I like talking about the Reds and don't get much opportunity to do it, I thought I would sign up and post an intro...

Originally from southern Indiana, my uncle is a photographer for the Cincy Enquirer, so he always was able to get us tickets to the game and some seriously awesome pictures he had taken (like Chris Sabo horizontal in the air while leaping for a ball).  I've been a fan as long as I can remember, which probably goes back to showing my grandpa my 1986 Topps Eric Davis card.

I'm in law school in Boston now and have started following the Reds religiously again since the season started.  (I had sorta lost track while I was in college).  I turned to the blogs to get my fix once the season was over.

Current fave: Adam Dunn (I don't love that he strikes out so much, but I love the fact that he wasn't afraid to break the single-season K record.)

All-Time fave: Eric Davis (and my alltime favorite baseball moment was being at game 1 of the 1990 series and seeing him hit that home run!)

Me
I have my own space, of course, but for this site's purposes, I'm 28 and a Cincinnati native and lifelong resident.  (That's about to change, though.)

My dad took me to my first game, against the Pirates, in the not-so-halcyon 1982 season.  The Reds lost, of course.  It would be 1988 before I saw a winning game, believe it or not.  (Somehow I remained a fan.)  My dad still has the certificate every fan got when Pete Rose returned to the club as player-manager on August 17, 1984.

I credit the following: MicroLeague Baseball for the Apple II, the 1988 Bill James Baseball Abstract, Bill Mazeroski's annual previews, and that very first pack of 1983 Fleer baseball cards.  (Wade Boggs rookie, second card in.  He never hit as well in our "flick" games.)

intro
I'm a 27 yr old graduate student in electrical engineering at Notre Dame, even though I don't root for them in football, because I went to Purdue as an undergrad. I grew up in Cincinnati but for the past 9 years, I've been in Cubs country and I can't stand it.

I've always been a Reds fan and I think that listening to Marty and Joe and imagining the game is much better than watching it on TV, which is convenient because I can listen on the internet, but not watch.

Favorite player
Now: Austin Kearns, Adam Dunn, Wily Mo, I mean really do we have to choose.
Past: Tom Browning
Future: Thomas Pauly

The Dude Abides
I'm Ryan, and I'm a Reds fan.

Everybody:  Hi Ryan...

I became a baseball, and therefore a Reds, fan all on my own.  My parents werent fans.  I started by trading my cabbage patch kids for baseball cards because I thought they were cooler.  I remember my first game there were all of these "welcome back Pete" signs, and I asked my dad, "Whos Pete?"  Ahh, what ignorant questions children ask...

Anyway, I may be the only cincinnatian who hates pete rose.  He was a terrific player and an ok manager, but come on folks, he was nowhere near the godlike stature cincinnatians think of him as.

I'm currently 27 and a software developer working in the kenwood area.  I go to maybe 6 games a year.  I'm also a new member of SABR.

I hate the new park, and long for the days when you werent BOMBARDED with ads constantly while watching the game.  Honestly, I dread going to the park anymore.  Also, I long for the old Mr Red race and Big Red Smokies ad. Ahh, good times.
