Sheets done for season

Sports Network | October 01, 2008

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Milwaukee Brewers ace Ben Sheets has a torn muscle near his pitching elbow which will keep him off the club's postseason roster.

Sheets has pitched only once in the last 11 days and was kept off the roster as an MRI revealed the swelling in his right elbow has worsened.

The 30-year-old Sheets is one of three players excluded from the Brewers' NLDS roster, as reliever David Riske (elbow surgery) and outfielder Gabe Kapler (shoulder tear) are not expected to play.

A big reason that the Brewers are making their first playoff appearance since 1982, Sheets was 13-9 in 31 starts to go with a 3.09 earned run average. He yielded 17 homers and 181 hits in 198 1/3 innings this season.
