Tigers' Polanco leaves with sprained ankle

Sports Network | September 26, 2008

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Tigers second baseman Placido Polanco left in the first inning of Detroit's game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday with a sprained ankle.

Polanco, who sat out Thursday's loss to the Kansas City Royals with a sore back, suffered the injury on a collision at the plate. Polanco walked and scored on a Magglio Ordonez double, but knocked legs with Tampa Bay catcher Dioner Navarro on the play.

The Tigers second baseman yelled in pain, and had to be helped off the field. X-rays performed on Friday were negative, and he will be re-evaluated on Saturday.

Ryan Raburn, who played in Polanco's place on Thursday, came on to play second on Friday. Polanco is batting .307 this season with eight home runs and 58 runs batted in.
