Recap: San Francisco vs. Colorado

Sports Network | September 26, 2008

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Jorge De La Rosa was stellar on the hill and Clint Barmes slugged a solo homer, as the Colorado Rockies completed a three-game sweep with a 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

De La Rosa (10-8) went seven scoreless innings and gave up just three hits while fanning seven and walking two to get the win. The lefty also helped his own cause with an RBI single and retired the final 11 batters he faced. Brian Fuentes tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his 30th save of the year.

Matt Holliday also drove in a run for the Rockies, who have won six of their last eight. Ryan Spilborghs went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the win.

Barry Zito (10-17) took the loss after getting tagged for three runs -- two earned -- on six hits in eight frames.

John Bowker drove in the lone run for the Giants, who have dropped four of their last five. Nate Schierholtz went 1-for-3 and scored in defeat.

The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Troy Tulowitzki reached second base on a fielding error by Ivan Ochoa. Holliday then laced a single back up the middle to plate the runner.

De La Rosa's single in the fourth scored Spilborghs from second, making it 2-0. Spilborgs singled and moved to second on Ian Stewart's groundout.

Barmes led off the seventh with a homer to left-center, which gave the visitors a 3-0 cushion. It was his second homer in as many games.

Manny Corpas took over for Colorado in the eighth and yielded a leadoff double to Schierholtz. Pinch-hitter Dave Roberts' groundout moved the runner to third and pinch-hitter Bowker laced an RBI single to pull the Giants within 3-1.

Fuentes came in to pitch the ninth for the Rockies and gave up a leadoff single to Rich Aurilia. Bengie Molina then went down swinging, but Scott McClain drew a walk. Aaron Rowand whiffed for the second out and pinch-hitter Pablo Sandoval lined out to Garrett Atkins to end the game.

Barmes has a career-high 11 homers this year...The Los Angeles Dodgers won the NL West crown earlier Thursday and will close out the season at San Francisco with a weekend set...Colorado will play at Arizona to close out the 2008 campaign.
