Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Kevin Slowey departed Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox after being hit on his right wrist by a line drive.
The Twins, who came into the night with a half-game deficit on the White Sox for the lead in the AL Central, let up six runs in the fourth inning to fall behind. It was during that inning when Slowey suffered a contusion of his right wrist. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center for x-rays.
With the bases loaded and one out, and Chicago ahead 3-1, Juan Uribe hit a line drive back to Slowey. The ball caromed off his forearm. Slowey recovered and rushed a throw to first base, but the ball sailed down the right-field line, allowing three runs to score.
Slowey was then replaced on the mound by Matt Guerrier.
