Snow to sign contract with Giants, then retire once more

Sports Network | September 25, 2008

San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Former San Francisco Giants first baseman J.T. Snow, who retired two seasons ago after a 15-year major-league career, will return for one final game, the club announced Wednesday.

The 40-year-old plans to sign a contract with the team and return to the field one last time on Saturday to officially retire as a Giant, as the club squares off against their hated rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Following his original retirement, the University of Arizona product joined the San Francisco front office, where he is currently employed.

A six-time Gold Glove winner, Snow spent nine seasons as a Giant and helped San Francisco to four postseason appearances before finishing his career with the Boston Red Sox in June, 2006. He joins Hall of Famer Willie McCovey as the only two Giants first basemen to start nine straight Opening Days since the team moved to the Bay Area in 1958.

The Long Beach, California native ranks in the top 15 in San Francisco history for batting average (12th-.273), runs (11th-561), hits (10th-1,043), doubles (7th-228), home runs (14th-124), runs batted in (8th-615) and walks (5th-565).

Snow owned a .268 batting average with 189 home runs and 877 RBI over 1,715 games for the Yankees (1992), Angels (1993-96), Giants (1997-2005) and Red Sox (2006).
