San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - San Diego Padres hitting coach Wally Joyner has tendered his resignation and plans to move on, the club announced Tuesday.
Joyner, who joined the team on July 31 of last season after the Padres let Merv Rettenmund go, submitted his letter of resignation effective at the end of this season.
San Diego, which won 89 games last year, is tied for last in the NL with 618 runs scored and owns the NL's lowest on-base percentage -- .317 -- entering play Tuesday.
San Diego's first baseman from 1996-1999, Joyner was the team's third hitting coach since 2006 following Dave Magadan and Rettenmund.
