Coverage

Reds beat Phillies 4-3, post-game wrapup

We don't usually do these, but with the gamethread going slow I thought I'd give the front page a clean forum.

Harang doesn't appear to be in midseason form, but he still had a pretty good game. He ended the game well after getting in that jam in the sixth and finished with six strikeouts in seven innings with three walks (two in that sixth).

Big ups to Dunn and Edwin for walking in the ninth, Hopper for laying down a perfect bunt, Freel for balls-to-the-wallsing on Bako's nubber, Bako for his nubber and Corey Patterson for that huge eighth-inning homer. Without the home run Cordero doesn't come out in the ninth and it's a totally different game.

Junior looked like he got all of two balls, but whether it was the April air or a deflated bat, he's stuck on 593.

All in all a good game. The rubber match will be an uphill climb, though, with our other youngster (Edinson) going against Philly's ace (Myers).

Game 5 Thread: Reds vs. Phillies Part II

We're kicking Eaton's ass, but we've only got two runs to show for it. Still, it's 2-1 and Harang is through five with only 68 pitches. We're in good shape.

First off, last night's start couldn't have been more disappointing, in my opinion. I don't know what I expected from Fogg, but I didn't expect another Eric Milton. I know it's just one start, and I don't expect him to be that bad every time out, but wow that was bad.

So for today, our ace will face Philly's  steaming log. I read this about Eaton the other day at The Good Phight: "Seriously? This guy is the Phillies 5th starter going into the season? Again? Please. Just no. Hell, go with 4 starters...for real." Read the rest of that post... it gives me optimism. Eaton beat the Reds last year in his only start against Cincinnati but allowed five runs in six innings. He had a 7.41 ERA in the spring. He's only on the team because of his gaudy contract. Kinda like our old Eric Milton problem. Today is Harang vs. Milton. That oughta make you folks optimistic, even though Ryan Freel is now our backup catcher and our fears that Dusty would pinch hit Juan Castro for Adam Dunn are realized. -boobs
