Game Thread: Game 38 vs. the Dodgers

TIME: 4:10 @ Chavez Ravine

DODGERS PROBABLE:
                            REDS PROBABLE:
Mark Hendrickson (2-0, 1.95)                   Bobby Livingston (0-0, 0.00)

The Reds haven't managed to beat the Dodgers since 2005, which is pretty sad. Here's to hoping that today will be the day.

Go Reds!

Billy Gillispie already is manically pulling strings to upgrade Kentucky's recruiting from the Tubby Smith Era, which means he should end the school's longest-ever Final Four drought (nine years and counting) before too long. And if he doesn't, they'll bring in someone who can.

From all accounts Gillispie is doing a tremendous job so far.  However, he has yet to coach a game.  Why would Forde already start the speculation on when he'll be fired?  He is perpetuating a myth about the UK fan base, and it's just another time that he's taken the opportunity to speak down to UK fans.  All because he's from the city that hosts the "Little Brother".

maybe
I just don't see that .268 vs. .296 is that significant.  Especially when you consider that BABIP, for a hitter, is not entirely luck.  It's partly skill.  But Hamilton doesn't have a big league track record for BABIP, so it's hard to say if he's having good luck or bad, unless he has a really extreme skew.

Saltalamacchia is nowhere close to a sure thing, and I think if you're trading a hall-of-famer, who's going to hit you 40 HRs this season, and is currently hitting over .320, you need to get a can't miss prospect.  Although, I really like J-Salt, and I wouldn't be opposed to making a deal for him, just not for arguably the best hitter on our team.

here ya go
The Dreaded Eighth

The time is here we've all come to dread
The worst possible inning if you root for the Red
It makes leads disappear, because no lead is safe
When our bullpen appears in the inning called eighth

No lead is safe, no lead secure
When our bulls start spreading their style of manure
So when you're done stretching from inning number seven
Never forget they're not sent from heaven

So when the seventh is over and you start to think
What now shall we do? Just start to drink
BOHICA my friends will be with us soon
And God help us all if we have a full moon

So when that time is nigh and we have all to fear
Pray very hard then reach for more beer
Please don't do something to make us spew hate
When the Reds take the field in the  Dreaded Eighth

Well, we've got five runs
So pink bats are ok.  Maybe next year we can get a pink pitching rubber...?

Pink bats
I actually ordered one of those for my mom for Mother's Day.  It's not like she's a huge baseball fan, but she's a radiation therapist/treatment planner at Kettering Hospital, so the breast cancer angle ties in nicely.  I figured it would be good for her office or the treatment area or something.

I dunno how accurate this GameDay trajectory is
but Stanton is missing the zone by miles, according to it.  Like he just got called up out of the California Penal League.

Ugh
I would really like to know who was the biggest front office proponent of the Stanton signing. No doubt it's Krivsky and his affinity for "gamers", but I'd like to know if anyone vehemently opposed it. If no one did, I'd say it's time the Reds front office joined the 21st century.

How on earth do the position players stand
to be on this team. They havent said a word. Time for someone to step up. Nothing but a team of losers that are just happy to be making 300k

by Muggerd on May 13, 2007 7:00 PM EDT reply actions

Not that I'm not frustrated
...but I'd be pretty happy to make $300K.  I could give up runs til the cows come home for that money.

Stanton has another year on his contract right?
I'm feeling like Krivsky should be like that Vietnamese prositute in "Full Metal Jacket" right now.

From the ballpark at the end of the universe?

I don't understand why they sent Salmon back down.  They barely used him.  At least by Reds standards.

And now they're pinch-hitting for Wonderboy.

Ok. Narron starts Josh Hamilton versus a LH pitcher and then pinch hits for Josh Hamilton with Norris Hopper versus a LH pitcher.

It better not be a bullpen guy
If they throw something, it's not gonna come anywhere near the intended target.  But at least it will be thrown softly enough that it doesn't break anything.

Trent says...
If you're a Reds fan and you still watch the 8th inning, you might as well just put nipple clamps on and get out the ballgag. 'Cause if you're still watching, you've got to be into that kind of thing.

This 8th inning thing is really getting ridiculous.

I knew
This was going to be bad when I read an article quoting ole Stormy saying he had a good feeling about this road trip. Seriously even though the bullpen is a major factor in our losses, this team finds ways to lose.  I don't care what kind of players you got, a team always finding ways of losing rests on the Manager and his coaching staff.

Stanton
He's gotta be gone now, right?  I mean, this isn't something that he can pitch himself out of.  How many times are we going to let him do this?

Who am I kidding.  The reds aren't listening.  Or watching, for that matter.

by Brian B on May 13, 2007 11:48 PM EDT reply actions

Stanton
Narron just needs to have the balls to let other guys throw more than to 1 batter. He pitches Coffey and Stanton way too much. Weathers needs to pitch more middle relief. Why use him as a closer when you cant even get to him. I mean have we even seen Burton since he came up again? They need to rush Salmon back soon also kid gave up 1 bomb and other than that he pitched well i thought hes just not totally accepting of his stuff.
