Game Thread: Game 17 vs the Phillies

TIME: 7:10 @ Great American Ball Park

PHILLIES PROBABLE:
                     REDS PROBABLE:
Jon Lieber (0-0, 11.57)                     Kyle Lohse (1-0, 2.53)

I'm just trying to forget the last two days happened. Taking advantage of a badly struggling Phillies team would really help with that.

Go Reds!

Hopper should lead off, I am sorry, but I do not understand all the freel love, he is OK, but thats all. and the Bullpen, we have the help in AAA, if only we could trust someone younger than 40 to handle the job. (and no, I don't mean Maj, he is perhaps the 4th best bullpen arm in AAA)

Freel's been playing well this season
I think it's his position to lose right now, particularly when Hopper hasn't even had an at-bat in the bigs yet this season.  We all know that Freel is streaky though...

by nlt-andrew68 on Apr 20, 2007 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't understand any Hopper love.
He's pretty much had one good year in his entire professional career, and it was still a year where he did little more than hit a lot of singles. Freel's the superior hitter by far, the superior defender by far, the superior baserunner by far, and his major league production has easily outclassed what Hopper has done in the minors. Hopper is not a good player. He will never be a good player and he has really never been a good player. He's not the future, he's the 25th man on this team who is one very small move from being back in AAA where he belongs.

by Geki on Apr 20, 2007 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

well we will see..
I think your are mistaken, (however, I want to say that I respect your opinion) I think at the end of the year, we will value basket full of singles he gives us at key moments.

JD says the Phillies are..
.."badly struggling" and they do only have 3 wins but one of those wins came yesterday when they scored in four different innings and their starter pitched seven shutout innings (before a hiccup in the eighth) and then their closer pitched a scoreless ninth (which is what you want your reliever to do) so their 'pen is rested and they've got as much confidence as they've had all season and while their clubhouse might be a mess it might just be causing them to play with some chips on their shoulders.

Thank you Man
My laptop is currently temperamental when it comes to video so I'm piling up a backlog of clips I want to view:  pizza fight, BA bobbleheads, and now (whowouldathunk it?) a clip from a Jim Rome interview.

My dad never liked Howard Cosell and he used to lament that Cosell just "hung around and hung around and hung around" so that my dad eventually realized that there was little use in "hating" Cosell so he just grew to "tolerate" him instead.  I think I'll feel that way about Rome for the next ten or twenty years.

His show is on XM...
..(is his podcast the entire two hour show, a "best of" each day or is it something else entirely) and I love it.  I try to record it each day and check it out as much as possible.

I've never seen more than a cumulative two hours of American Idol but I love hearing him go on and on about each performer and such.

XM also has ESPN radio which provides "PTI" and I should record those too (you really don't have to "watch" PTI unless you want to see waving hands and the poison dart glances.)

Love TK.  Love him.

Kornheiser = phenomenal
I lived in Dayton until 2 years ago, and I was absolutely livid when ESPN radio removed him for Colin Cowherd as the national broadcast.  I moved to DC, and was delighted that not only did we get Kornheiser on ESPN radio, but we got an extra hour of Kornheiser.  Then, sadly, he was gone.  Now, I have XM, Kornheiser's on XM, but I haven't gotten the opportunity to listen to him in his new digs yet.

by Alan @ Red Reporter on Apr 21, 2007 9:23 AM EDT up reply actions

maybe
you should effin hustle all the way?

The ball was crused into left, where the outfielder was playing very shallow, charged hard and came up throwing. Add in a slow runner and you have to hustle the entire play.

Could you imagine the comments if that throw had beat him to the plate?

by Caleb on Apr 21, 2007 9:27 AM EDT up reply actions

There was contact at the plate...
