Spring Training Game Thread: Game 8 vs. Tigers

TIME: 1:05 @ Sarasota

TIGERS PROBABLE:
                     REDS PROBABLE:
Nate Robertson                              Aaron Harang

Still undefeated, fun times.

I watched the first five innings last night on YES, found myself pretty impressed with Livingston, loved Freel's bunt single, and thought Josh Hamilton looked awfully good. Granted I only saw a couple of at bats, but he seems to have a pretty nice command of the strike zone. I might be getting on the bandwagon a little bit.

Go Reds!

First thoughts....
I'm definitely not one to overregulate, so I think First should largely be undefined on game threads.  If you get up at 5:45 and check the website, you should have the option of putting your timestamp on a FIRST.  Definitely commendable.

But......I, personally, elevate the FIRST person to crack a beer on a game thread.  That is the true measuring stick in obc-land.

So, at 8:10 AM
You've started drinking for the day.  Or have been drinking already and just logged on to Red Reporter.  Either way, commendable sir.  It's kind of like Tommy Lasorda's diet.  A beer for breakfast, a beer for lunch, and a sensible dinner (does whiskey count as beer?).

I wonder
if we would have beaten the Yanks with this lineup.  I mean, we did a good job against the toughest lineup in baseball last night.  I'm particularly pleased about the pitching (with the exception of EZ, though he didn't do too badly, either.)

oh well, still undefeated!

Anyone see
The Reds had to renew Phillips, they couldn't agree to a deal for the year.  I don't know if that means he got the same deal as last year or what.  John Fay said BP and his agent want a long term deal, and the Reds couldn't agree to one with him yet.

Personally, I think Wayne should wait until mid season before even thinking of offering Phillips a long term deal.  He hasn't even hit arbitration yet, so why rush into a deal right now?  Make sure last summer wasn't a fluke first.

if i ever am a professor, which is in my plans, if i ever catch anyone doing something like that, i'd kick them out!!!

mlb.tv is only blacked out when games are on in a market area.  last night's game was not broadcast in cincy area but was only on in ny area. but really i was just saying that there are a lot of people who are depending on game day when so many games are available online, and wlw doesn't broadcast too many of the games until late spring. i often "suggest" buying mlb.com products because i really work for them.

I know its only spring training
But some things just piss you off universally, I suppose.  The inability to get in the runner on third with less than two outs is just one of those things.  Ugh.

Or does Hamilton show a lot of patience while at the plate. Anyone got his OBP numbers so far? They have to be pretty high.

Hamilton
That's his 4th walk in 25 plate appearances this spring.

AGon with a base hit.  Gil scores.  First and Second, still no out.  Soft J runs for AGon.

no
a lot of reds missed opportunities

by truckparade on Mar 8, 2007 3:19 PM EST reply actions

I don't know
I don't think I'd call scoring 3 runs a missed opportunity.  It's pretty common for high scoring teams to leave men on base.  When you get a lot of men on, you're going to leave a lot on.

BTW, it's 7-4 now.  I don't know how the run scored.  I was away from my computer.

Bad news for obc and sukr
GABP is designated a completely non-smoking facility.  You cannot smoke from within the confines of GABP and you can't leave to smoke and then come back in.  According to a Reds press release.

I knew about the no smoking, but not leaving? Please, how can they police that? They'd have to not let anyone back in.

I'll try one game.
If this is true and they actually enforce the exit/enter thing, I won't go back. I can understand not allowing you to smoke on premises, but not letting you leave and come back is not part of the law and it's stupid.

Burton
I saw this this pitcher J. Burton agaist the Yankees and was very impressed with his velocity and the slider he used to KO Jeter.

What you guys think about him?
I saw he was a Rule 5 draft pick up, never heard anything about him.
