Harang signs LTC
This is probably the second best move Wayne's made in his tenure with the Reds, right behind Pena for Arroyo. Not sure why it took so long, but great deal for the Reds. - JD
Per Trent's blog:
Aaron Harang agrees to a four-year deal with a club option for 2011. There's a press conference at 2, so I'll have more then.
UPDATE: The deal, including the fifth-year buyout, is worth $36.5 million, which when Gil Meche is getting five years for $55 million is a bargain. The press conference will be live on WLW and Reds.com

Hello and Such
I've been lurking on this site for close to two years now and thought I should finally say hello to everyone.
I'm quite pleased about the Harang signing but I tend to develop anxiety anytime the Reds find a true quality starter because we historically seem to have horrible luck keeping our star pitchers healthy (O'Toole, Soto, Rijo, etc.). Here's hoping that tradition ends...
Talking about unhealthy pitching, it seems that Dave Williams will be out about 3 months with a herniated disc in his neck.

Hi, Hello and welcome
something I'd love to know
I wonder how many teams besides the Reds got 70 starts from their #1-2 starters. I'm guessing...zero? Maybe one or two others. Can we expect that again? Just a random thought as I just read that both Harang and Arroyo made 35 starts last year.
I've got a chart on this somewhere
i wish i had charts

a couple points about this
This has been a big cause for pessimism regarding next year for me (I know this is out of place on the Harang LTC thread). If you can get 425 innings out of two starters you're usually way ahead of the game. But if the Reds did that next year that would be 50 innings less from Harang/Arroyo, innings that would e pitched by lesser pitchers.
And that's assuming Harang and Arroyo remain 1-2 in innings. If there's an injury our top two starters could be Harang and Milton combining for 400 IP. Scary thought.
Atlanta
Pettitte and Oswalt had 67... but then again, Clemens might be considered #1 or #2

Ah
As for the CDs, thanks for the offer, but my comment reminded me that I meant to look and see if I had backed up my copies elsewhere, and it just happens that I had. So, it's all good. Now I just need to watch them.

Fantastic
Harang is entering the prime of his career, and could get even better than last year. How great would that be.

The breakdown of the numbers
Harang gets base salaries of $4.25 million this season, $6.75 million in 2008, $11 million in 2009 and $12.5 million in 2010. There is a club option for 2011 at $12.75 million with a $2 million buyout. If Harang pitches 210 innings in 2010, the option increases to $13 million. If he is traded, the option becomes mutual and increases to $14 million, with a $2.5 million buyout.
that's really good

I liked this part the best:
Does Castellini seem choked up or something...
Also, am I reading too much into this?:
"That's a good two-fifths (of a rotation)," Krivsky said. "(Kyle) Lohse and (Eric) Milton have to step up and whoever does wins the fifth spot.
"But those two guys at the top is a good start."
Are we getting two more starters? No way, right? Right?!
P.S. Forgive me if someone else has already posted this, but Homer Bailey needs a haircut, bad. He's a regular Bronson Arroyo here: http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070125/VIDEO02/301240054/1071

And a late reply: yes Slyde, I agree the humor is much better in LC, especially between Indy and dad. The heavy handed jokes in TOD are some of its worst features. But I insist that the better thrills in TOD make up for its worse humor.
Whatever
Actually, I think our differences come down to opinion rather than quality issues. I probably agree that TOD is a more tightly put together movie, and the action is definitely superior. However, my preference still lies with LC, but I'm still a big fan of all 3 movies.
i dont understand why
For starters, it kicked off the whole damn thing, and you know what they say about sequels...
Also, the history lesson in rotla is far more interesting than tod, and by the time tlc came out that storyline was stale. (Hmm, so, how about in this one, the nazis try to get some sort of magical relic with profound meaning to christian culture... then when the nazis try to use it, it will backfire on them and only be beneficial to indy.)
Plus they pulled out all the stops in tlc, gave away every little secret, and it just seemed more like an amusement park ride than a movie.
And Karen Allen is leaps and bounds hotter than Kate Capshaw and Alison Doody.
Karen Allen??
gotcha
Yeah
if anyone asked me
eh?
Chunk was in Temple of Doom?
okie dokie dr. jones
Allen hotter than Doody?
We need a IJ best of the trilogy poll. I'm for LC, despite TOD being the best action bang-for-the-buck a PG movie can reach. You can't beat Connery's delivery in LC.
Is there...
If there is
