Gamethread: Game 102 vs. the Astros

TIME: 8:05 @ Minute Maid Park

ASTROS PROBABLE:
               REDS PROBABLE:
Taylor Buchholz (6-8, 5.57)       Elizardo Ramirez (3-6, 4.43)

Need a better outing from Elizardo than we saw last time, but the Reds also need to score some runs against Buchholz, a guy who hasn't been very good this year.

Go Reds!

stupid question...
how can a player go from batting second one night to batting eighth?
Hey bartender...

the same way
a guy batting over .500 for July can ride the pine every other night.

Clayton
obp vs lefties .393
obp vs righties .289

People argue that Dunn should hit 2nd because he has a high obp percentage, wouldnt the same apply for Clayton then? (Note: I dont actually think he should hit second)

Did EdE....
Sleep with Narron's wife or what? We need all the runs we can get tonight, and we have a slumping Jr in the three hole, and our stud 3b on the bench.

this is a bad sign,
i think the reds are going to keep the tradition of trading away their latin players.  i have a bad feeling that in the next few days he'll be on some other roster while we get a mediocre pitcher.

Too Late
I was going to state that slump or no slump I am pleased as punch that I know Junior isn't on the juice or "leaded" coffee.

Then he goes yard.

I was saddened to hear about the Tour de Farce winner testing positive. What a dope. I did wonder how a guy who needs his hip replaced could win that race.

Kudos Junior!

by ohiobobcat on Jul 27, 2006 8:14 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

there's a chance that it was a false positive
i think they are running a second test to be sure, but it is sad that he did test positive.

i move we start having drinking events where competitors get drunk and compete.  It would be much more entertaining and frankly, I think the players would be more appealing to the every man.

obviously his streak was under MUCH more important circumstances.... I swear Dave Stewart hit him on purpose in game 4

by indy on Jul 27, 2006 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was 9
He was 3 for 3 with a walk in the first game.  He was 4 for 4 with a walk in the second game.  He grounded into a double play in his first at bat in the third game, though he still went 2 for 5.  And then he was hit by Stewart and left the game to start game 4.

I know
If only we had a young player to develop for 3B long term.  You know, a "third baseman of the future."  Perhaps a kid flashing some serious skill with the bat.  Maybe showing some range defensively.  I'd be willing live with a few errors, you have to with a young kid, but at least somebody we could get in there to hit righties.  If only....

Guess it will have to remain a dream.

I think Dunn was thinking steal there.
He looked like he was going for a lead.

by James Quinn on Jul 27, 2006 11:01 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

That last hit got Dunn's BA up to .261
I think he's brought it up 30 points in the last two weeks.

Did Soriano homer today?

I just checked statracker
Soriano homered, you got an impressive win from Lidle, and EZ is in line for a win. And you got a save from Gordon. You increased your lead today. You're not feeling shit.

ok
i'm not feeling your pain today but I'm still carrying Wandy on my Roster for some unknown reason. That is painful all by itself

fantasy
in the Red Reporter League?  I think I have Guargado on the bench in the other league with Lidge in.  Big mistake.  Got to get Lidge out of my lineup.

I think we should
trademark that one, too.

Okay I couldn't stay away
Just wanted to say this:
Freel was friggin flying around second base on that triple. That boy can run. That was an exciting play.

I love our offense. : )

Fire Jerry.
Did he honestly just use Wise over Edwin? Edwin better be hurt without me knowing it.

by Geki on Jul 27, 2006 11:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Wise
I'd rather see Wise up there when its not as crucial. Gotta get the poor guy some abs everyonce is a while. If we really needed the run, then yes, I would want Narron's head for ph wise over EdE...

How many more ABs does Wise get on this club?
Where is Denorfio?  Why can't he pinch hit?

by TheC on Jul 27, 2006 11:06 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Denorfia
I think in the two games that he played since the trade, they've decided that Denorfia can't play baseball.  So they've sandbagged him.  Clearly Wise can hit the 4-3 grounder more consistently than Denorfia.

by Brian B on Jul 27, 2006 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Forgot about Denorfia!
I actually did. You're right, he should have been sent up to get an AB. I retract my previous post.

El Guapo K

I don't like Eddie in for a non-save

he made them die like dogs!! Does he have a plethora of saves yet?

Oh, yes. He has a plethora.

Freel
That's okay.  Narron was going to bench him for three days after tonight's shameful production anyway.
