  • Ryan Freel on Wayne Krivsky:
"I don't think there's another GM out there who has made the kind of moves he's made," Freel said. "We have a GM who knows what the heck he's doing. We'd be 20 games below .500 without the guys he brought in."
  • JinAz has a look at the Reds defense.
  • Even Marc Lancaster sounds optimistic after last night.
  • Ha. Jim Bowden will be staying with the Nationals. Poor Washington.
  • The Reds have a 60 percent chance of making the playoffs, according to Baseball Prospectus. Easily the best odds in the NL Central. The Astros are under 5 percent.
  • Paul DePodesta is now working for the Padres. I'm sure he'll be happy to have such a direct shot at wrecking the Dodgers.
  • Jeff Weaver is available. Anyone think he might be better out of the bullpen?

Krivsky.
While his deals have been gold so far, I can not help but feel there is still a bigger one coming. Look out during the All Star Break.

Castro
Viva el Manos de Oro. No matter what else he does ,or doesn't do, the rest of the season he has been worth the cost of the trade.

Dunn
enough said.

Weaver
I would try to get him, provided the cost was not too high.

4th of July
I hope everyone has a great holiday and remembers what it means. It means that if you are in 1st place you have about a 63% chance of winning the pennant.

Go Reds!!

Weaver
I would LOVE to see Weaver in the pen.  However, he is gonna sign with a team that wants him to be a SP.  And there are plenty of teams that would love to get him into their rotation (aka the Cardinals need major help).  Best way for the Reds to get him is to sign him as a SP and send Mays to the pen.

Weaver/Mays
That would work also. I think Mays is a guy who could give the Reds a couple of innings in middle relief and get us to Belisle and Coffey.

you could feel the saliva
in the discussion on Viva El Birdbrains last night.

I know the Cards aren't as good as they have been in the past, but I really am shocked at their collapse.  I'm hoping they don't pick up Weaver.

I really just made a comment because I wanted to write Viva El Birdbrains.  (It's a good site.  I'm just being juvenile.) ;)

Don't go after Weaver
I'm a west coast guy and have seen Weaver since his college days at Fresno St.  He is bad news.  He's selfish, not a team player, wouldn't pitch from the pen, and gives up way too many home runs.  This would be a bad apple to mix into the Reds good chemistry...beware!

jeff..
He's also better than all but one of our relievers. I'll take him any day. Don't forget, he's still got wicked stuff, he just needs someone to teach him how to keep his composure. He couldn't be any worse a fit than Stormy, Mercker or Yan.
I remember when he was a Yankee, and I'd follow them around the country with my dad. Every Yankee fan hated him because he usually got rocked. But one day he went out and threw 8 shutout innings and gave up like 2 hits. He's got it, he just needs to figure out how to use it. This could be the most special team he's ever been a part of, if we go after him.

I like Jeff Weaver, but he's not a good fit.
He's exactly the kind of player the Reds shouldn't go after in a pitcher. The man gave up 35 homers last year pitching at Dodger Stadium half the time.
