Where is everyone?
After 15 runs last night, I'm pretty pumped tonight.

Go Reds!

Richie!
I love this guy!  I really can't believe anyone ever wanted him off this team.  If there's a man in scoring position when he's up, you may as well put the runs on the board.

Ramirez
That was a great sequence ith Ramirez wearing the wrong helmet.

Since when is the Lizard a right handed batter?  And then he hits the first pitch for a single.  Maybe he should try pitching left handed!

by Brian B on May 23, 2006 7:48 PM EDT reply actions

I was listening
so I couldn't get a good picture.  What happened?

by ben nevis on May 23, 2006 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Lizard
Ramirez (who has always batted left-handed) came to the plate wearing a left-handed batting helmet.  He stepped in to hit right-handed and realized he had the wrong helmet so he went back to the dugout.  A kid in the dugout gave him a new helmet.   Ramirez put it back on his head, and all you can see if Felipe Lopez in the on-deck circle with his hands out like "what are you doing" because the second helmet was ALSO a left-handed batting helmet.  So someone gets him the correct helmet.

He finally gets in to the batter's box to hit right handed for the first time, and he promptly lines the first pitch up the middle for a single.

Finally
There is a pre-pitch routine longer than Nomar's.

by teb7 on May 23, 2006 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

BRady Clark
Did anyone see that first inning when Yost was thrown out?

Apparently Clark just did the same thing in the thrd inning - threw his elbow out at the ball to try to get hit.  I can't believe the ump didn't yell at him again.  If I'm Jerry Narron, I'd tell the Lizard that, if Clark really wants to get hit, oblige him at about chin level.

George Grande thinks Brady's a gamer for trying to get hit, but that's bush league in my book.

by Brian B on May 23, 2006 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah
That's more or less what it sounded like on WLW.  But Steve didn't say anything about it in the third.

LaRue
Any ideas why LaRue is catching the Lizard tonight and not Valentin?

by ben nevis on May 23, 2006 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

Whatever the reason...
It has not helped the Lizard's control.

Eveland's a lefty...
... and the LLM is 0-12 against them this year. (and only hit .184 against lefties last year.)

small crowd here
Most people are probably watching Katherine McPhee kick butt on the finale of American Idol. Go Kat!

And Prince Fielder is going to hurt us for years to come.

Idol
Realy a shame that people waste their time with that.  Sorry, RM.

by Brian B on May 23, 2006 8:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Idol
The fact is the show has gotten better and better as it's gone on. Now in it's fifth season it's better than ever, which is very rare for television. Contestants now demonstrate a wide variety of musical styles, as opposed to the cookie cutter, karaoke Mariah-wannabes of the first two seasons. People can dump on pop music all they want, but there's just something about using three minutes to make a simple, sometimes powerful message of love or loss or happiness. Since about 2000 nothing interesting has emmerged on the popscape not in some way associated with Idol.

We now return to your regularly scheduled programming...

since about 2000
I've stuck with Amazing Race and Lost, which came out in 2003.

I caught Alias part time but not enough to follow for 5 years.  In January of this year, my wife and I started renting each season of Alias from Netflix.  I have to say that was probably the best written and performed action drama ever to hit the small screen.

Now that's it's all over, I don't know what I will do.  Wait for Abrams comes up wth another, I guess.

Rent Arrested Development. Everyone. And forget that I like American Idol if it helps.

Big Arrested Development Fan
My wife just bought me season 2 for my birthday.  I can't wait til season three comes out.  It doesn't get any better than Bob Loblaw and Tobias' job as the first Analyst/Therapist - I'll save the joke for those who have yet to see the show.

Couldn't find one good enough to swing at,even though 3 of them we're right down the middle.

re:
you ready to come over to other side regarding adam?......

He's going to continue to do "just enough" to keep people who believe in him hoping.......

at some point though (with the reds or with another team), he'll lose his good batting order slots, start getting platoons on some nights etc.etc...  then will begin the deep decline.................

Come over now. Come to the side of the folks who like well played baseball by players who respect the game and don't treat it like weekend golf or just an easy way to make millions.........

I'll never join the Dark Side.
I think the difference is that I know if Adam swings the bat he's more dangerous than any hitter not named Pujols.

by Brian B on May 23, 2006 8:26 PM EDT up reply actions

But
he's got to swing the bat.

by ben nevis on May 23, 2006 8:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly
that's where Michael and I will never agree.

by Brian B on May 23, 2006 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Given his .380 OBP
He's pretty dangerous when he doesn't swing the bat. I agree that Dunn is a terrible batsman, but Michael fails to acknowledge that Dunn is one of the most productive offensive players in the league, strikeouts or no. There's simply no way to spin a .380 OBP into something bad, especially when that is also attached to a .570 SLG. People's complaining about Dunn's strikeouts and defense are essentially complaining that he is not Willie Mays. Let the man be himself, a flawed and productive player.

Yeah
Griffey's lost it.  Get him out of center all ready.

(what a play!)

by Brian B on May 23, 2006 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Even on ESPN Gamecast
I could imagine the kind of play that Griffey would have had to make on that ball.  It was headed for the gap, and I thought for sure it was a double.

TV vs. Radio
Typically, I don't mind just listening to games on the radio, which I do from Boston.  But it's on shots like that where I wish I could just watch Jr's pretty swing, drop of the bat, and slow trot.  Oh man.

in pregame show tonite narron said he was going to go with both aurilia (playing in the infield somewhere) and hatteberg tomorrow night......

i don't know if "brew crew" (i'm gonna suffocate myself if i hear grande say that again) has another left handed starter but if they do, I'm on record now with following prediction:

If Dunn goes hitless tonite and brew crew starts a lefty tomorrow look for dunn to get his first bench nite of the year..........

with an off day thursday, he may bench dunn either way with justification that he wants to give dunners a couple days off because he has started every game this year...

Don't they have WiFi in the locker room?  I'm surprised he doesn't get on between innings.

And I doubt he would disparage Larue when Larue has him throwing strikes like never before.  My guess is that his criticism of Larue is just some playful ribbing between teammates.

But it seemed like a good win. For whatever reason, it always encourages me more when we win "normal" games like this one as opposed to blowouts or 1-0 shutouts. I think it lets me know that this team isn't a fluke and will be competitive to the last.

great game
Sorry to say I'm going to rely on the BlackBerry and this board in the next few days.  The Freedom start play tomorrow and I have got to catch the first few games live.

Love the direction of the Reds, flaws and all.  Krivsky, Castellini and Marvin are remaking this town.  I was wrong re: Narron, except for the horrid interviews.  I could use a Vern Ruhle update...my best to him and his family.

The '06 Reds are keeping Miami Vice Season Two in the celophane.  Kudos. Let's get some bullpen arms asap.  I still despise Leatherpants for the Sowers and Gruler/no Kazmir debacles.  "Venti" Coffey has been lights out.  I was dead wrong on the Bad Man and Hatteberg.  I was pro Lopez/EE/Phillips since they made the roster respectfully.

Ride on, Red Reporters.

FYI Thurs is dollar beer night in Florence.  Good times.
