Saturday Playoff Open Thread

Here's what we've got today:
1:00 - San Diego (Young) vs. St. Louis (Suppan)
4:00 - New York (Wright) vs. Detroit (Bonderman)
7:30 - New York (Trachsel) vs. Los Angeles (Maddux)
Seriously, if a team has to resort to using Steve Trachsel as a starting pitching in the playoffs, then they probably don't really deserve to be there. And I say that knowing full well that that statement would have applied to the Reds had they made it. Kyle Lohse in game three is kind of an unsettling thought, and I probably like Lohse more than most.
How're we feeling about the Oakland win? I saw it as kind of a good thing either way, both Oakland and Minnesota have alot of things to like as franchises, so I could have rooted for either one of them going forward. I think I'm going to be pulling for Oakland from here on out, whether it's against the Yankees or Tigers, although the Tigers are growing on me.

Renaissance festival
I'm thinking the Napolionics joke
Never been to the Renaissance festival, although it looks like a town crier of a good time. My problem would be getting shut down by nerdy Renaissance babes because of the laptop. I can't take that twice, I'm far too fragile.

Go Yanks!
I remember reading in Moneyball how Billy Beane would pace the parking lot during playoff time, not doing any meddling or managing. The reason? Playoffs, especially five game playoffs, are random. A seven game series is a better test - let's hope that the networks make a bundle this year, and agree with baseball to expand the format in the future.

Go, Tigers!
I wish major league baseball would level off the incomes more of the teams - like the other pro leagues do - so the small market teams would have an equal chance to get an all-star lineup like the Yankees!
I can't believe how pathetic the Padres have been so far! And Maddux should help extend that series.

Arod's playoff OPS
vs. Bos OPS .894
2005 vs. Laa OPS .581
2006 vs. Det OPS .200
The trend is clear. If they make the playoffs next year expect a 0.050.
you guys arent serious, right?

Holy crap.
Goodnight Dodgers.
Yep.
I wonder if the Dodger fans will start leaving after the bottom of the eighth.
by Paul Householder on Oct 7, 2006 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions
They usually do that, don't they.
You're not taking 6 of 6 from the Reds next season. Mark my words.
OK
That should come up in a search, you think?
Actually, too common.
Ash likes Jerry Narron.
Don't think that will ever appear in a normal conversation. Easy to search for.

Shoulda done
There, I think that covers everything you will never see me say.

sukr owes me one.
I owe RHM a beer.
I owe someone a coke from a jinx during some game thread.
I think that covers it.
sukrbowdenlovechild looks nicer, I think.
You better hurry....
Oops, now there's no Raison D'Etre's left. If you hurry, you can claim the 90-minute Imperial IPA.

Dodgers eliminated.
Padres not eliminated.
Can't complain about today's outcomes.
Yep.
by Paul Householder on Oct 8, 2006 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions
Eh.
They might even suck it
Their starters went 4.1, 6.0 and 3.1 innings in the three wins. The three off-days are a huge plus for them, because they have basically worn their bullpen out.
by Paul Householder on Oct 8, 2006 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions
I was thinking the same thing...
In that scenario
Hmmmm.
Yep.
I already have what I wanted from the Deadbirds-Padres series. Carpenter will have to pitch twice, which means he isn't available until Game 2 (short rest) or 3 (normal rest) of the NLCS if the Deadbirds win. Knowing TLR, he would probably pitch Carpenter on short rest, and he'll implode. I'd love to see SD pull it out after trailing 2-0, though. There would be Cards fans jumping from the Gateway Arch.
by Paul Householder on Oct 8, 2006 12:37 AM EDT up reply actions
Late to the party
So go Sean, go Tigers, and boo Cardinals.
(The starting pitching in the NLCS is just going to be ludicrous).
Yeah, I heard he's starting game 2 for the Mets.
Wocka Wocka!
So...
