I vote for Krivsky
Honestly, Pinella would be awful.

Before I wring my hands over the new GM ...
Let's have a moment of silence to yell "O'Brien fired! Yea!"

Make sure you tell all of your co-workers that don't care.

The only thing better
would have been if it happened at the news conference Friday. It will be interesting and telling to see who gets picked.

I wonder if this ownership had been taken care of a couple of months ago, if the Reds would have had a shot at Epstein. Everyone said he didn't really want to be in a large market. But, that was all just a powerplay, I guess.

Another thing... I saw this on Fox Sports, but, not on ESPN

Press Conference
I missed it. What did they say?

Presser
He was vague, but probably cause he had to be.  They are looking for someone to run the whole baseball operation.  They are looking for someone with the ability to communicate the vision to the fans.  They have "room in their budget" for sabermetrics.  They are accepting resumes.  Kullman is the interim GM and is a candidate.  Lou Pinella will not be the GM.  The search will take 3-4 weeks, with 6-8 candidates.

Obviously, he was a witch.
Which is why Castellini burned him.

I like this new owner.

Don't mind me...just pitching to contact, that's all...

He's a witch
It must've taken the weekend to verify that he weighs the same as a duck and therefore is made of wood.

Ahaha!
Funny! Nothing like a good firing to pick up the mood around here. Thx for the link above. It will be very interesting to see who gets interviewed.

One last look at Dan'O

I think it's notable that all the seats behind him are empty.

Wow!
I cannot believe.  So far, the new owner is a decisive man of action.  This is not--sadly--the same as succeeding.  Let's hope he can.

Castellini
Well, I guess he read some blog comments about people thinking he was full of fluff in his press conference.

If that works..
We should try some other programming.

Hey, What's Your Feeling on This?
I am trying to get a handle on how the regulars feel about the DOB firing.

I will say this as a positive for DOB: He had a plan. He didn't really stick to it. But at least he came in with a plan to fix the organization. And it still needs fixing. I still don't see a lot of talent coming through the pipeline.

But, having said that, it wasn't going to be fixed in two years. Anybody want to respond on whether the minor league system is better off than two years ago? I know I don't know.

Is it better? Is it a lot better? Should it have been better than this given the two years?

Love is a burnin' thing. It makes a fiery ring. thankyouverymuch

by oldcleat on Jan 24, 2006 9:27 AM EST reply actions

Nope
The minors aren't much better. Most publications rate the Reds system as near the bottom. Obie's drafts may not show their fruits for a couple of years, but it does not look promising aside from Bailey and Bruce. No one knows for sure, but his ability to evaluate talent at the major league level should be a fairly solid indicator about who he might have drafted. He was a fool that I will not miss... hope we find someone at least open to the much derided SABR tactics. For now I say, "Go Bob...kick a little ass."
Goodbye Uncle Carl, I never loved you.
