The Most Valuable Player of the 2006 PG WWBA 2011 Grads or 15u National Championship was selected by the Reds with their Shin-soo Choo compensation pick.
I am probably being overly harsh, but plenty are skeptical of the "Stanford Swing," an emphasis on hitting the other way that can screw up kids when they're facing higher-level stuff. But here's Blandino hitting a dinger!
He's got an infielder's profile: can run into some doubles and maybe ~5 HR, can play around the infield depending on how his body develops...I imagine the ceiling is something Jed Lowrie-ish, which would be a heck of a weapon if he could stick at SS.
On the other hand, it's not a bad possibility that he becomes Zack Cozart without the defense, or Billy Hamilton without the speed. Which is basically Chris Valaika. Blandino is born and raised in Palo Alto, so it'll be interesting to see how he does outside of the friendly confines. He's a bit more of a wildcard than one might like in the first round.
