On this day in 1894, Jesse Tannehill made his major league debut with the Reds. He would pitch in four more games for Cincinnati that season before disappearing to the minors until 1897 when he resurfaced with the Pirates. Tannehill remained in the big leagues until 1909, playing for the Pirates, Red Sox, Yankees, and Senators in that time. He came back for one last game with the Reds in 1911 before retiring.

On this day in 1907, the Reds sold outfielder Harry Wolter to Pittsburgh.

On this day in 1910, the Reds bought left-hander Rube Benton from Macon in the South Atlantic league for $7,000. He posted a record of 84 - 91 with a 3.28 ERA in nine seasons with the Reds.

On this day in 1948, Dave Concepcion was born in Ocumare de la Costa, Venezuela. In 1983, Concepcion "led" the NL when he grounded in 21 double plays. He actually grounded into a high number of double players throughout his career, which is odd given his speed and a fairly high strikeout rate (for the time).
