Things could be worse. Closers don't matter, right? And nobody liked Skip anyways? And the bullpen is deep?
"It wasn't a (Ryan) Ludwick situation." Fay talked to Skip, who says that he'll be out a month or so. It probably actually means two months, as BubbaFan will be in the comments to explain to us. So hopefully they'll 60-day him and give that spot to Bernadina, Rog Bernadina.
So that's Sean Marshall, Broxton, Schumaker, Hannahan, Chapman, and probably Latos starting off the season on the DL. All of the sudden, Parra is the only lefty lock in the pen and Bernadina will be the only lefty on the bench. Lee Hyde suddenly nabs the Zach Duke spot in the bullpen, Broxton's spot goes to Jumbito Diaz (I hope), with Brett Marshall (maybe) getting the last bullpen spot. Bernadina is in the OF, and Hannahan's utility role goes to...I dunno? Ramon Santiago or Kris Negron? Looks like we'll learn a lot in the last week of ST.
"Marshall came to Goodyear the next day with two bags -- one the dark blue of the Yankees and another the brighter blue of the Cubs." Fun little CTR story on Righty Marshall, who didn't know who Walt Jocketty was when he called to say that Brett would become a Red. Seems like a decent enough dude; I trust the Reds' pitching coaches to straighten out high-walks dudes.
We're all learning about how awesome Chapman's Instagram is nowadays. You want to look at pics of the staples in his skull or his busted face with Brayan Pena? Ashanti Chapman is not impressed.
JinAZ has his own blog these days and is doing pretty fantastic previews for the Reds. He says that it's a very good team! But they don't have very much depth. Well, at least they're going to, um, test the mettle of aforementioned depth. I guess.
Pete Rose is giving a talk on March 30. If that's your sort of thing, you should check it out.
On to other hand, if Yasiin Bey / Marvin Gaye mashups are your thing, you should check this out.
If you're not sure if that's your thing or not, trust me. It is your thing.
Yordano Ventura is having a heck of a spring for the Royals. Grant Brisbee goes on about their tough pitching luck since, I dunno, Runelvys Hernandez or whatever. Me? I'm thinking Cueto. Short guy delivering high heat with wipeout offspeed stuff he can control? Definitely Cueto. Definitely happy to see an AL version of Cueto.
Happy Saturday everybody! Here's dogs being shown a magic trick:
