Well, the time is almost upon on in which we start predicting the winner's of each game. In fact, we are already doing so in the spring training game threads, so if you haven't yet predicted, go do so.
This year I would like to shake things up a bit by changing the rules to penalize those who pick against the majority of us by intentionally selecting the other team. I don't want to push them away completely, because we will lose a little less than half the games in a season. I'm just not sure how to quite go about this though. I've never really been in any other prediction contest, let alone run one, so I would like input from those of you that have done this before elsewhere. What was done different'y? How did they add weight to picking the home team? Perhaps I could do 3 pts for predicting the Reds and getting the score correct, 2 pts for predicting the Reds and getting the closest, 2 pts for picking the other team and getting the score correct, and 1 pt for picking the other team and getting the closest. I also have considered adding a cap to how far off one can be to earn any points, say 5 off. If the closest predictor is more than 5 off no points are given.
Please add as much input as possible so I can weigh these changes before the season starts. Thanks,
