Friday Night 12/12: Throwback Game of the Week, 1975 World Series Game 5

Take a break from freaking out about how close the holidays are getting! Join Red Reporters and our Over The Monster brethren tonight for a gamethread following a baseball contest from the past.

On the slate this evening is Game Five of the 1975 World Series: the Boston Red Sox at the Cincinnati Reds, coming to you from Riverfront Stadium. The Series is tied at two games apiece, so the winner of this game will certainly be in the driver's seat when the series goes back to Boston.

The game is on YouTube: 1975 World Series, Game 5.

You know the drill: Start watching at exactly 9:00 pm just like everyone else, and that's that. Get here X minutes late? Just skip ahead in the video to X minutes past 9 pm.

I think RR is hosting the thread this week, but just in case, here's our counterparts' thread for this game at Over The Monster.

Game Preview

The reliably good but reliably fragile Don Gullett gets the start for our Cincinnati Reds. He will face off against Boston swingman Reggie Cleveland. Oh, and did you know Dick Pole is on the Boston roster? Might want to keep an eye out for him, but just a tip: don't blink or you might miss it.

At the plate, the Reds haven't really gotten it together yet. Dave Concepcion and Pete Rose are pulling their weight but as a group it's fair to say the Big Red Machine has been outhit thus far by a remarkably even top-to-bottom Red Sox lineup. Bench and Perez in particular have struggled in the heart of the order; Morgan too, but at least Little Joe has shown he knows the value of a walk. Here's hoping they find their mojo tonight.
