On this day in 1936, the Reds sold catcher Billy Sullivan to the Indians. Sullivan spent the entirety of his 12-year major league career as a capable back-up catcher. After a mediocre season with the Reds in 1935, Sullivan had one of the finest years of his career with the Tribe in 1936.

On this day in 1977, former Red Hod Ford died in Winchester, MA at the age of 79. While with Cincinnati in 1928, Ford hit .241 with 49 runs and 54 RBI, and he somehow received at least one MVP vote.

On this day in 1984, Cincinnati signed second baseman Jeff Treadway "Commission." He spent parts of the 1987 and '88 seasons with the major league club before the Reds sold him to Atlanta.

On this day in 1988, the Reds signed middle infielder Ron Oester. His best seasons were behind him, though Oester would play with Cincinnati through the 1990 season before retiring.
