Farmers Only: Corcino + Ervin + Garrett=Org Sweep

No losing!

  • Louisville jumped on the Indy Indians and held on, winning 6-4. It was a battle of the supposed pitching prospects, as Daniel Corcino outfiddled vaunted Pirates prospect Jameson Taillon. Corcino went 6 innings, allowing just one run on 5 hits, striking out 5 and walking only 1. Mike "Chesty" Hessman drove in 3 with a first-inning double, and Henry Rodriguez reached base 4 times (thrice via walk). Hank is OPSing 1.033 over his last 10 games, for those of you interested in such things. Speaking of small sample sizes, Daniel Corcino has a very acceptable 3.69 ERA in his last 49 innings. Ludwi CK was 0-4 with another pair of strikeouts, and was hit on the hand by a pitch, though it didn't seem to be a big deal. The win was the fourth straight for the Bats, who are back to .500 on the year. Nevin Ashley honked a solo gaggle as well. Up next: Yohan Pino (4-5, 2.75) messes with the Indians at 7:05.
  • Pensacola was buoyed to a 6-2 win over the Generals by an inside-the-park homer from Ryan LaMarre, who was 2-4 on the day. The win secured a series victory for the Wahoos over league-leading Birmingham. Moose Mattair was 2-4 with a couple of doubles, and Tucker "Ryan Hanigan" Barnhart was 2-3 with a double and a walk. Josh Smith had a good evening, tossing 6 2/3 innings of 2-run, 5-hit ball, walking 1 and striking out 7. Those 2 runs both came on solo jimjams, though. Up next: The Wahoos turn to Carlos "Mercifully, Not Mencia" Contreras (1-1, 2.87) looking for their 4th straight win against the Barons at 7:05.

  • Bakersfield had the day off. They'll face Stockton at 10:05, sending ""Black" Jake Johnson, "NYC" 5-4, 5.63) to the mound.

  • Dayton won a marathon against the Whitecaps, winning 5-4 in 13 innings. The biggest story from this game was Amir Garrett, who had his best start as a Dragon. He went six innings, allowing just a solo homer and a walk, striking out 4. Nice. Phil Ervin has already emerged as perhaps the best hitter in the Dragons lineup while Uncle Jesse has been Rip Van Winker-ing, though Seth Mejias-Brean might have something to say about that. Ervin was 2-4 with 2 walks and a steal, singling to lead off the decisive 13th inning and coming around to score the winning run on a Tanner "Timberline" Rahier sac fly. The Lumberjack, by the way, ended the night 2-5 with two doubles and 3 RBI. Up next: Drew Cisco (4-6, 3.85) against West Michigan at 7.
  • Billings followed the organizational herd, beating Missoula 4-1. Adam Matthews stole the show, going 4-5, though he only managed to score just 1 run and drive in just 1 guy despite accounting for over a third of the Mustang hits. Ronald "Here Is" Bueno wasn't horseshit, going 2-5 as the only other 'Stang with multiple hits, though Avain "Ross &" Rachal walked twice. Austin "City Limits" Salter was groovy in his 6 innings, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits and a walk, striking out 4. Up next: Junior "The Island of Doctor" Morillo (0-0, 6.00) faces Missoula at 9:05.
  • The AZL Reds made it an organizational sweep with a 7-1 victory over the Ranger Cadets. Nick Routt, Ibrahin Radan, and, yes KMiB, "Supercali-" Franderlyn "-sticexpialidocius" Romero combined to 1-hit the Rangers, though they did allow 4 walks. Logan Uxa was 2-3 with 6 total bases (2B, 3B, BB), and "More" Oviel "-tine, please!" Florentino stole home to secure the W. Up next: AZL Rangers at 10.
