Farmers Only: A Bob Steve Letdown

And a dubious feat by Louisville

  • Louisville's offensive ineptitude was on display, as they mustered just 2 hits in a 3-0 loss to Columbus. The Bats' anemic bats were shut out for the 27th time this year, a new franchise record. Denis Phipps and Jason Donald each had a single, and no one reached base via walk or error. Pedro Villarreal tossed 4 innings of 1-run ball, striking out 5 and walking none, and "Tone" Loek Van Mil made his Funky Cold MedinAAA debut with 1.1 scoreless as well. But still, gross game. Up next: Yohan Pino (5-7, 3.12) against Columbus at 7:05.

  • Pensacola lost to Birmingham, 5-4. I was hoping Robert Stephenson would ease the pain of this Cardinals series a bit, but alas, Long Rob Silver struggled with his control, walking 5 in 4.2 innings. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, striking out 4. It's just a bump in the road, but it's way more fun when he's just blowing everybody away. StingRay Chang was 2-3 with two doubles, and Devin Lohman was 2-4 with a double to lead the offense. Tucker Barnhart chipped in with a single and a walk. All work and no wins makes Weez a dull boy. Up next: Off day.

  • Bakersfield also lost, 3-1 at the hands of Stockton. A guy with a 5.69 ERA threw a CG 5-hitter against the Blaze, giving up just a solo jackalope to Juan "FiveThirtyEight" Silverio, his second in as many games. Kyle Waldop was 2-4 with his 18th steal, and was the only Blaze batter with more than one hit. Jake Johnson's sweet chill vibes brah were all harshed on like a little bit, as he gave up 3 runs on 6 hits in 5.1 innings, striking out 7 and walking 1. Up next: Fabian "Disney Villain" Williamson (1-2, 6.38) takes on Stockton at 10:15.

  • Dayton had the day off. They'll head to Great Lakes for a huge series against the Loons, with playoff implications. Jackson Stephens (3-5, 3.88) will get the start.

  • Billings beat the Raptors for the second day in a row, 6-4. "It's All In" Aristides Aquino was 2-4 with a tron triple, and Carlos "Danger" Sanchez and Gabriel Rosa both went deep to drive in a combined 5 runs for the Mustangs. Austin Salter and Zach Weiss pitched 3 innings apiece to start the game, with the former keeping a clean sheet, and the latter allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Up next: Off day funday!

  • The AZL Reds, uncharacteristically, won! They beat the Little Dodgers 7-4 behind a 3-run bomb from Aldi Guzman. The Kevins were both good too, as Kevin Garcia was 2-3 with 2 doubles, a walk, and a steal, and Kevin Franklin was 3-4 with a double of his own. After a crazy slow start to the year, Franklin is putting good wood on the ball recently, hitting .341/.349/.439 in his last 10 games. Must be swinging at everything, as he has just 1 walk in that span, but he was taking the free pass a decent amount earlier in the year, so I'm not too worried. 3rd-rounder Mark Armstrong made his second appearance, starting the game and tossing 2 scoreless innings, giving up just 1 hit and striking out 1. Tyler "DJ Magic Marley" Mahle got the win by following with 3 unblemished innings, striking out 5 in the process. Up next: A rare AZL day game, against the AZL Dodgers at 2.
