Farmers Only: Another 2013 Draftee Debuts

Tucker? I hardly knew her! - http://bluewahoosblog.mlblogs.com/

3rd-round high school RHP Mark Armstrong took the mound in Arizona.

  • Louisville had the day off to reflect on their 1-game win streak. They'll send Daniel "Clams" Corcino (6-13, 5.75) to the mound looking to double that streak at 7:05.

  • Pensacola took part in quite the pitcher's duel, and came out on top in 11 innings against Huntsville, 1-nil. The Wahoos' fifth straight win came thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Ryan LaMarre (2-5) to scamper home, and Trevor "Taco" Bell closed it out for his 16th fourthmeal of the year. The game featured 12 hits total, all singles, and obviously dominant pitching all game. Josh Smith got the start for the 'Hoos, lasting 6.1 innings and giving up just 4 hits. He walked one and struck out 4. Up next: Robert Stephenson (0-1, 3.00) continues his meteoric rise to stardom against the Stars at 7:43. Seriously, not 7:45, not 7:40, seven-forty-three. Doubleyoo-tee-eff.

  • Bakersfield was damned by their own errors again, falling to Inland Empire, 5-3. Juan "-derson" Silva had a good game at the dish, though, going 3-3 with a triple, 2 runs, 3 stolen bases, and no errors. That was pretty much it for the offense, though, as they collectively managed just 3 more singles. Shaun Ellis didn't allow an earned run in his first game in High-A, giving up 2 hits in 4 innings with an unearned run. Thanks, errorbama! By the way, the 66ers have a catcher named Anthony Bemboom, and I think I can speak for -ManBearPig too when I say that it'd be a lot of fun to write about him when he hit homers. Up next: Jake "Bananas and Pancakes and Flip Flops, Brah" Johnson (6-5, 5.36) takes the bump against the 66ers at 10:05.

  • Dayton beat Lake County 4-3 behind Tanner Rahier's 3 hit night. The young 3B drove in the tiebreaking run, while the Seth Matthews Band was 2-5 with a double to lead the Dragons. Amir Garrett was solid in his 5 innings, surrendering 2 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts, but Confederate General Jackson Stephens vultured the win, giving up a run while pitching the final 4 frames. Up next: Drew "Dumps Like a Truck" Cisco (4-7, 3.90) takes on Lake County at 7.

  • Billings got their asses handed to them by the Chukars, 10-1. The Mustangs managed just 5 hits to the Chukars' 15, all 5 coming from the bottom 3 in the order: Daniel Paula (1-3, 2B), Carlton "Banks" Daal (1-3), and Nick Benedetto (2-3, 2B). Avain Rachal did walk twice, so he's got that goin' for him...which is nice, but this was largely a game to forget. All 4 pitchers gave up runs, and it was just a rough night in Montana. Up next: Zack Weiss (1-3, 3.78) against Idaho Falls at 9:05.

  • The AZL Reds lost to the AZL Brewers 4-2. They really just aren't very good, it seems. The bookends of the order accounted for most of the offense, as leadoff hitter Kevin Garcia was 2-5 with a double, and 9-holer Aldi Guzman was 2-4 with a wangdoodle. 2013 3rd-rounder Mark Armstrong made his professional debut in this one, tossing a perfect inning with one strikeout before Tyler Mahle, who was drafted four rounds later, took over and gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking and striking out one. Armstrong's debut went kind of under the radar, as nobody on Twitter at all seemed to notice. Check out our post when he was drafted for more info on the right-hander. Up next: Snake Babies at 10.
