Farmers Only: Farewell to the Farm For Now, Greg Reynolds

USA TODAY Sports

Maybe he can keep the momentum for a few starts?

  • Louisville snapped a franchise-high 12 game losing streak, beating cRochester 5-1. If the Greg Reynolds Era has begun, he's coming off another very good start in AAA. Greynolds went the full 9, allowing just 5 hits and one run, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. I think he has the potential to put up a lucky solid start in the bigs here and there, because he pitches to contact, and the BABIP gods could theoretically smile upon him once or twice. Anyway, Bill Quixote was 2-4 with a walk and a steal, and Mighty Mike Hessman smacked 2 doubles and walked during his 2-4 perf. Up next: You win one? OFF DAY.

  • Pensacola put a hurtin' on Huntsville, winning 8-1. It was death of a salesman baseball starring Devin "Willy" Lohman, who was 3-4 with a 3-run Arthur Miller. "Archangel" Michael Costanzo walked twice and had two hits, and Theo "Huxta" Bowe was 2-4 with a steal. Tim Crabbe was solid again, pitching to contact in the best way. He went 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, with a walk and a strikeout. Nice job, Timmy. Up next: I'll tell ya about Josh Smith and his adventures to the Stars tomorrow.

  • Bakersfield lost a hard-fought match, 5-4 to the Inland Empire David Lynches. Shane Dyer was solid in 6 innings, but some bad luck and bad defense doomed the Blaze. Dyer went 6 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 3 runs (2 earned), walking none and striking out 7, but Jimmy "Get an Out" Moran and Pat Doyle combined to blow the game, with the help of a David Vidal error. Despite the 4 runs, the offense was relatively quiet, with nobody recording more than 1 hit, though Juan Perez doubled and walked twice. Ehh well. Up next: Shaun Ellis makes his first start as a member of the Blaze against Inland Empire at 10:05.

  • Dayton was drowned by the Whitecaps, 6-3. Nick Travieso was eminently hittable, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits in 4 innings, striking out just 2 and walking 1. Sammy Diaz was the only real offensive threat, going 2-4 with a pair of doubles as the Dragons managed just 4 hits on the night. They played good defense, at least, with no errors and 3 double plays turned. Silver linings, and all that. Up next: Amir Garrett faces Lake County at now-ish.

  • Billings was off. They'll play the Chukars at 9:05, with Lucas "Get a New Name" Moran (3-3, 4.67) getting the start.

  • The AZL Reds dispatched the Non-Alcoholic Beers, 8-4. Alberti "Canada" Chavez was 4-5, all singles, and Kevin Garcia knocked in 3, going 2-4 with a triple and a walk. Franderlyn Romero tossed 5 1/3 relief innings, giving up 4 hits and a run, walking none and striking out 4. Up next: Baby Brewers again at 10.
