Farmers Only: A Haunting in Bakersfield

get well soon, Chad - -ManBearPig

Take a guess why

  • Louisville had a rough night. They lost their sixth straight, 5-1, and scored just 1 run for the fifth time in those six games. As has been the case, Henry Rodriguez and Billy Hamilton made up most of the offense, with Hank notching 2 more hits and a walk in 4 times up, and Billy going 1-3 with a walk. Quix did pull a Winona Ryder, though, getting caught stealing. Adding insult to injury, Chad Reineke went down with a right arm injury–twitter says it was his elbow, which would be a major bummer–after just 2/3 of an inning, and a bunch of relievers came in and mediocred all over themselves. Up next: Chad Rogers (4-3, 3.72) and the Bats have already played, but that's for tomorrow.

  • Pensacola and Jon Moscot dug themselves into an early hole, giving up a three-spot in the top of the first, and couldn't claw their way out, losing to Mississippi 5-3. Jonny Muskrat had a day to forget, walking 4 and allowing 9 hits in his 5 innings of work, giving up 4 runs and striking out 3. No real offensive standouts (for real this time, poojols!), as Mike Costanzo's 1-3, 2B, 2 BB was as good as it gets. Up next: Tim "Louie" Crabbe (6-8, 3.44) faces the Braves at 7:05. It's "Faith Night," so bring your goat carcasses and voodoo dolls.

  • Bakersfield pitchers walked 10 batters and of course they lost ya dummy, 7-4 to Visalia. Juan Perez did his best to make up for the haunting, going 3-4 with a 3-run Betelgeuse, but there's only so much exorcising one guy can do. James Allen was responsible for 6 of the walks in his 5 innings, but it was actually Michael Lorenzen who blew the game, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits while working parts of the eighth and ninth. Up next: Shane Dyer against the Rawhide at 10:15.

  • Dayton was off. Up next: It's -ManBearPig night at Fifth Third Field as Ismael Guillon (4-7, 5.64) takes on the Great Lakes Loons (appropriate...) at 7.

  • Oh, hey look! An affiliate won! Billings beat Idaho Falls 3-1! Rejoice! The Mustangs managed just 6 hits, 2 from Adam Matthews (who also walked), but it was enough to choke the Chukars. Ben Lively, who has been all kinds of nails, got the start and worked 4 perfect innings with 5 K, and Daniel Wright and Austin Muehring combined to close it out with 5 more solid frames. Of course, the guy who gave up the only run, Wright, got the win, because pitcher wins are a whimsical flight of fancy with giggles and nonsense abounding. Wait, nope, they're just dumb, that's what they are. Up next: Pedro Diaz (2-6, 4.99) against the Chukars at 9:15.

  • The AZL Reds...goodness me. They exploded for 18 hits and 13 runs. And lost. They lost! 14-13 to the AZL Angels. Dalton "Jay-Z" Carter had a 2-run magna carta, Aristides Aquino tripled twice during his 4-6 night, Kevin "Cherry" Garcia was 3-5 with a walk, and Kevin Franklin knocked in 3 with 2 doubles. Every single pitcher gave up runs, all 5 of them, but somehow the last one to pitch, Wagner Gomez, took the loss. Sheesh. Up next: Off day.
