Farmers Only: You're Supposed to Win the Games, Fellas

this is still a funny picture - Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

Every Reds affiliate won just 1 game over the weekend.

  • Louisville dropped 2 of 3 to Indianapolis over the weekend. Friday's 4-1 loss saw Daniel Corcino walk 6 in 3 innings, giving up 2 runs. His K/BB ratio on the year is 12:9, so let's hope he can settle down. The Bats managed just 2 singles on the day. Saturday's 3-0 win was nice, as Chad Reineke held Indy to 5 hits over 5.2 innings. Cool Papa Billy walked, singled, and stole a base (his 11th), and Felix Perez, the Hellflower, and Konrad Schmidt each had 2 hits. The Bats were on the wrong end of a 2-1 score on Sunday, wasting a solid start from Yohan Pino. He was tagged for both unearned runs in the sixth. Denis "My" Phipps "Don't Lie" went yard for the only Louisville run. Up next: Greg Reynolds (2-0, 3.38) faces Indy at 7:05.
  • Pensacola's game Friday was rained out, but they split the other weekend contests against Jackson. They took home a 4-3 win in 11 innings on Saturday, as Devin Lohman drove in all 4 Wahoo runs (2-4, HR). It's worth noting that they beat vaunted Mariners prospect Taijuan Walker, even though they only scored 1 run off him. Sunday's contest was less exciting, as the Wahoos lost 7-3. The Knockwurst knocketh (Donald Lutz went 2-4 with a homer), and Theo Bowe also went 2-4 with a steal, bringing his season average all the way up to .091! Daniel Renken got roughed up in 5 innings, giving up 6 of the 7 runs. Up next: Josh Smith (1-2 10.97) tries to get his ERA under 10 at 8:05.
  • Bakersfield also dropped 2 of 3 over the weekend. Friday was the lone win, a 9-7 shootout against Lancaster. Yorman Rodriguez stomped all over the JetHawks, going 4-5 with 2 doubles, and Juan Duran and Dominic D'Anna each honked knuckle chucklers. Tanner "Paso" Robles and Pat Doyle combined for 7 not great innings to start, but the back of the bullpen held on for the win. Saturday was less kind to the Blaze, as they lost 11-4. Four errors and just six hits will do that. Carlos Contreras pitched OK, but the pen coughed up 7 runs and Lancaster didn't look back. The JetHawks walked off on Bakersfield yesterday for a 6-5 win. This team is in rough shape so far this year... Yorman Rodriguez, batting second for the first time all year, created the first run of the game the old-havoc-fashioned way, singling, stealing second, going to third on an error, and scoring on a wild pitch. That was about it for the positives, though. Up next: OFF DAY! They're back at it against High Desert on Tuesday.
  • Dayton, too, dropped 2 of 3 in what is quickly becoming a stupid trend. Friday's was a 5-2 loss to Bowling Green as 4 Dragon errors led to 3 unearned runs and, ultimately, the loss. Jesse Winker finally had a good game, going 3-4 with a double, and Jeff Gelalich added a double and a single of his own. Sal Romano was the victim of the aforementioned errors, which ballooned his pitch count and knocked him out in the fifth. On Saturday, a four-run eighth inning gave the Dragons a 6-3 win. Robert Stephenson gave up 2 runs in 4 2/3 innings, striking out 7 and walking 3. He's still striking guys out, which is great to see, but I'd love for him to put up some of those dominating lines he was teasing us with towards the end of last season. Winker had another 2 hits, and Junior Arias honked a chocolate covered mint. The Dragons squandered a 5-1 lead on Sunday, falling 7-5 after the Hot Rods scored 6 unanswered to close out the game. Jesse Winker capped his great weekend with 2 walks and a 2-run homer (his first of the year) but Joel Bender and Alejandro Chacin wasted a decent start from Wandy Peralta to give up the win. Up next: Ismael Guillon (0-2, 6.75) looks to get back on track against Lansing at 7:05.
