On this day in 1917, the Reds acquired infielder Gus Getz from the Brooklyn Robins (Dodgers) off of the waiver wire.

Also on this day in 1917, Hod Eller made his major league debut with the Reds. He allowed one unearned run over two innings in an 8-4 loss to the Pirates.

On this day in 1931, Reds Hall of Famer Paul Derringer made his major league debut with the Cardinals. He allowed two runs in three innings in a 6-3 victory over Cincinnati. Derringer was a member of the inaugural class of the Reds Hall of Fame. Can anyone name the other four inaugural members?

On this day in 1935, Reds Hall of Famer Ival Goodman made his major league debut with Cincinnati. Goodman went 2-4 with a RBI in a 12-6 loss to the Pirates. He went on to lead the league in triples that year with 18 and repeated the feat in 1936 with 14.

On this day in 1947, Cincinnati sold Reds Hall of Famer Lonny Frey to the Chicago Cubs.

On this day in 1969, Reds Hall of Famer Cesar Geronimo made his major league debut with the Astros. Geronimo pinch-hit for pitcher Jim Ray, but did not collect a hit. The Braves beat the Astros, 6-4.

On this day in 1999, the Reds traded right-handed reliever John Hudek to the Braves for flame-throwing reliever Mark Wohlers and cash.

On this day in 2009, the Reds traded infielder Jeff Keppinger to the Astros for a player to be named later. Houston later sent utility player Drew Sutton to Cincinnati to complete the trade.

Three ballplayers named "Bruce" were born on April 16th: Bruce Taylor, Bruce Robinson, and Bruce Bochy. They were born in 1953, 1954, and 1955 respectively. I find this interesting for some reason.
