The Reds have one less arbitration case to worry about, as they agreed on a 1-year contract with Shin-Soo Choo for $7.375M. Choo had filed for $8M, while the Reds countered at $6.75M, so they settled at the midpoint. Not sure why it took them so long if they were just going to split the difference, but who knows what was going on behind those red and white curtains.
The Reds' two remaining arb-eligible players are Mat Latos and Homer Bailey, both of whom the club is looking to lock up long-term.
Cincinnati also signed right-handed reliever Clay Hensley to a minor league deal. Hensley won a ring with the Giants last year, throwing 50.2 innings of average baseball (4.62 ERA, 7.5 K/9, 5.3 BB/9). He's bullpen depth with major league experience, which is always good to have just in case.
