On this day in 1954, the Redlegs traded outfielder Jim Bolger, lefty Harry Perkowski, and right fielder Ted Tappe to the Cubs in exchange for lefty Johnny Klippstein and righty Jim Willis. Klippstein was the only one that was more than a part-time player, and the Reds got three-plus good seasons out of him before trading him to the Dodgers. He would return to pitch 108 innings for the Reds in 1962.
