This year's NL MVP race isn't really that exciting is wide open. Joey Votto missed too much time on the DL, Melky juiced, and McCutchen has been slumping (not to say he is out of the race yet), Ryan Braun has put up nice numbers, but his team is so far out of contention its very unlikely he would win. The following 4 players have been identified as possible MVP candidates. Posted are their 2012 stat lines, who would you choose (I left out names to avoid bias).
| Player | BA | OPS | SLG | HR | BB | WAR |
| Player A | .311 | .991 | .603 | 37 | 55 | 5.7 |
| Player B | .325 | .925 | .525 | 19 | 59 | 5.1 |
| Player C | .345 | .969 | .561 | 24 | 54 | 6.0 |
| Player D | .313 | .904 | .501 | 17 | 75 | 6.0 |
Out of the four player C (McCutchen) is probably the favorite, however if he continues to decline there are three players right along side him to take it.
Also, for fun there are two pitchers who have put together very dominating seasons who could win the award. We all hear how unlikely it is for a pitcher to win the MVP, but these two pitchers have put together, in my opinion MVP caliber seasons. At the very least they deserve a few votes.
| Pitcher | ERA | WHIP | SO | BAA | HR/9 | BB/9 | SO/9 | W | L | |
| Pitcher A | 2.58 | 1.124 | 149 | .243 | 0.5 | 2.0 | 7.1 | 17 | 7 | |
| Pitcher B | 2.64 | 1.025 | 195 | .221 | 0.8 | 2.0 | 8.9 | 18 | 4 |
I left out names but it is pretty clear who is who, and both are battling for the NL Cy Young. I think all 6 of the players listed here have a shot who is your pick?
Key: Player A = Ryan Braun, Player B = Buster Posey, Player C = Andrew McCutchen, Player D = David Wright, Pitcher A = Johnny Cueto, Pitcher B = R.A. Dickey
