On this day in 1925, Reds Hall of Famer Eppa Rixey won his twentieth game of the seasons for Cincinnati. Rixey went the distance, allowing two runs on 11 hits while walking one. He did not record a strikeout. The Reds beat the Phillies, 7-2.

---

On this day in 1943, Hall of Famer Joe Morgan was born in Bonham, TX. Morgan slashed .288/.415/.470 (159 wRC+) during his eight seasons in Cincinnati. He won the NL MVP as a Red in 1975 and 1976.

---

On this day in 1959, Reds Hall of Famer Gordy Coleman made his major league debut. Coleman played for the Reds from 1960 to 1967. While in Cincinnati, he slashed .271/.322/.447, good for a wRC+ of 106.

---

On this day in 1964, Hall of Famer Frank Robinson smacked a three run walk-off homer to beat the Cardinals, 7-5, in the first game of a doubleheader. Robinson's round tripper came off of fellow Hall of Famer Bob Gibson. The Cardinals took the nightcap, 2-0.

---

On this day in 1973, Fred Norman hurled a two-hitter as the Reds beat the Giants, 5-1, at Candlestick Park.

---

On this day in 1975, former Red Javier Valentin was born in Manati, Puerto Rico. Valentin posted a line of .264/.326/.429 (90 wRC+) as a catcher for the Reds.

---

On this day in 2000, Ken Griffey, Jr. smacked his 40th home run of the season in a 7-3 loss to the Giants at Pacific Bell Park. Griffey's home run came in the top of the eighth inning when he pinch-hit for Reds pitcher Keith Glauber. The four bagger came off of Livan Hernandez. Griffey was the first player to hit his 40th as a pinch-hitter.

Note: As The 25314 points out in the comments. Griffey's home run was the 40th of the season, not the 400th of his career. The 400 number is erroneous and came from a typo. Griffey hit his 400th home run on April 10, 2000.
