With Drew Stubbs returning from the DL, here are interesting statistics: in the first 54 games, with Stubbs batting second, the Reds averaged 4.12 runs. In the last 14, with somebody/anybody else batting second, they averaged 5.28. Proof, if any were needed, that #2 in any carefully crafted lineup needs to be a table-setter, above all a contact hitter, not someone who swings for the fences and strikes out about a third of the time.
